The Top 5 were all great picks this year, don't think any of them will bust.

The next 5 are more questionable though.

Rielly has the biggest bust potential of the top 5 but he also has high boom potential.
Galchenyuk also although i feel that he could very well turn out to be the best player of the draft even better than Yakupov if he reaches his potential.
It's too bad that he was injured last year because i really wanted the Oilers to consider him even at 1.
I agree on Reinhart. Was honestly surprised he went top 5. What i see when i watch him is the ideal 2nd pairing defenseman providing both PP and PK contributions. Not really any high end capability but sound everywhere.

Reinhart. I never saw top 10 pick material out of him. Maybe I only managed to catch him on his worst days but he never impressed me.

I see I am in agreement with many people. I just dont see Reinhart doing amazing things. I watched a very small sample of his play during the memorial cup, and was not impressed

I know this likely will not occur I will go with Yakupov, he may either be a 90+ player or play below expectations and produce below 70 points.

So being a sub 70pts player makes you a bust now?

Well in terms of the expectations of a #1 pick sure.

I don't think this is a "who will straight up bust" but more of a "Who won't end up reaching the play expected of a player picked at their spot." Obviously as we go down the first round, the more true sense of the word bust can start being applied.

Most likely to Bust

Reinhart- worst case scenario he's a 3rd pairing D-man but i doubt that will happen

Reilly-If hes not putting up big points from the back end I dont see how useful he will be 5on5 or on the PK to make up for it. Has enough skill that I think he will be a quality PP guy.

Galchenyuk-Dont see him busting, if he doesn't score he's big enough to be a valuable 2-way centre

Yakupov- If he doesn't score hes pretty much useless, but his talent level is just a step above the others I have a hard time seeing him bust in this league

Murray-Plays every scenario possible. If he doesn't score he's still an effective 5on5 and puck moving guy. Can play PK ect. CBJ Has a solid D for the next decade

Least Likely to Bust

Galchenyuk and Murray has the least chance of busting imo. Even if they don't meet the expectation i still see a good future for them because of all the intangible . Having said that i don't think any of the players listed will bust .

I don't really seem boom or bust in Reinhart. He seems a pretty safe bet as an NHL player. If we're talking boom or bust in the top 5, Rielly seems to best qualify, given the high risk type of game he plays offensively and his somewhat underwhelming defense(which is hardly surprising for a young offensive defenseman), but even so, I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't turn out to be a good NHL player. I don't think any of these players will bust.

If I'm looking at the top draft picks, the one that I think has the greatest boom/bust potential is Dumba. He's a talented defenseman, but he just doesn't strike me as particularly intelligent on the ice, and he plays a style that really seems better suited for a bigger player.

This.

If I had to pick an actual bust, then I'd go with Dumba.

Not sold on how well Reilly's game will translate when he gets less space and his skating isn't as far above the other players as it is in the CHL

Im hoping and praying its Galchenyuk or Rielly for obvious reasons haha

But they both have had pretty serious injuries early on, could be a sign of things to come (although I hope if they bust, its not because of that obviously thats just cruel)

I voted Rielly just because if his offensive game cant transition to the NHL level then he wont be very effective otherwise, as in he wont be strong defensively. I think he can get by in the WHL because he can make up for defensive lapses and look really good because of his speed, but in a league where everyones faster, that might not be the case. And he has cooled off after his hot start to the year.

Who knows though... I dont think either of them will bust though FWIW

I don't think any bust because I think they all play in the NHL for a decent amount of time so I don't like that term.

The two most likely to disappoint are Reinhart and Rielly. I think the expectations already being attached to Rielly will make it more disappointing if he doesn't put it all together.

Depends on what you mean by bust. I don't see any of these guys being a bust in the ending up in Europe in 4 years sense, but I can see Reinhart or Murray being guys that 5 years from now Islanders or Blue Jackets fans will say "we picked him that high while X or Y was still available?". Rielly could be considered a bust in that he's a Leafs D prospect and might never win a Norris

As someone who watches him quite regularly, I can honestly say he really hasn't cooled off. Forwards like Fioretti were playing a lot better in the beginning of the year, and Morgan who is more of a playmaker was feeding off of that. A couple of the forwards have been cooling off, and this is hurting Morgan's assist totals. He's as dangerous as he was in the beginning of the year. I think Rielly has a high bust potential just because of his playing style (2nd highest for me), but I voted Yakupov. I don't really like him as a prospect, and don't expect him to be more than a one dimensional ~60pt player. So relative to position picked, he would be a big disappointment. Galchenyuk is my favourite prospect of the 5, and always has been.
