Exactly. I seem to recall some years ago that developing or helping to develop minor hockey in expansion markets/southern states was an expressed goal of the nhl.

Creating good minor hockey systems where there were none at all or small/struggling one's seems like a no brainer if you are looking to grow the sport in non-traditional markets.

There have been more an more American players developing in these markets and moving onto the NCAA or CHL ranks and on up into the pros. So not only are they raising awareness and possibly creating new fans, they may also be helping to increase the availability/probability of local kids making it to the show and giving fans another reason to check out the product.

Yeah but he's done an outstanding job of expanding the reach of hockey in the US. A lot of US fans in colder states actually seem to not like this for odd reasons.

Since Gillies appears to be dressed as the backup today (according to the GDT), does that mean he will be the regular backup for the Americans?

Wow. Only two Minnesotans made the final roster? What a crock.

I know. Minnesota should have produced better '93s and '94s.

Anyone mind posting a lineup? Can't quite seem to figure out how everything's going together.

Think about that, then take a look at the box score from United States 8, Germany 0. The Americans had eight goals from eight players, and those players were born in six different states: Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Texas, and Wisconsin.

Now, take a look at the most famous Team USA there ever was, the 1980 Olympic team. The entire roster was composed of players from four states: Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

Per Rob Simpson: Grzelcyk has been cut. Sieloff is officially on the team.

Sucks for Gryz as he deserves to be on the team too.

I would not have guessed Sieloff would be the one to stay. Maybe he'll be a pleasant surprise.

Why was the US taking so long to make the last cut?

Waiting to see how the existing puck movers looked. I think it mostly had to do with Reilly who played well with Jones. I like the Sieloff selection for another reason and one I hope we don't see. But should Trouba or one of the other d-man pop somebody and get the gate for a game he fills the role they would ask better. They had enough puck movers and went with another stay at home guy and my guess is late in games with a lead Sieloff will draw in with Jones. It also allows him to get experience and return next year in Malmo.

Also there are three Minnesota boys for those complaining above.

I think Sieloff will be paired up with Trouba eventually. Correct me if Im wrong but these two played lots together right?

Housley should be ashamed of himself for the way he treated those two players and their teams by prolonging this. On top of that he kept the wrong guy.

Let's wait for something to go wrong before we start calling out bad decisions.

That's a little over-the-top don't you think? Personally, I think the right decision has been made. They have enough puck movers. Sieloff is a physical presence who can be an asset against a team like Canada.
