And at some point you run out of closers. It's silly to have like the ninth best closer in a fifteen-team league and not Clayton Kershaw on the team. Or some random setup guy like Steve Delabar that nobody cares about.

Plus at some point you need 2-3 inning length. You'd have to take literally twenty relief pitchers to be sure you had enough arms to survive an extra inning game.

Big reason why tieing home field in the World Series to this is extremely stupid.
Home field was arbitrary as it was. It was never fair that an 85-win Twins team in 1987 got home field because of the rotation nonsense, to name one example. It was basically a coin flip whether the team that got home field would merit it. At least it's something not completely random based on the year now. It's not like they went from best record to this, that would be stupid.

I agree, but it should of always just been based on best record. Your record and that alone. It is beyond silly that a bunch of players, which might include one or two players from your team being managed by a guy that is most likely a rival controls whether YOUR team gets home field in the World Series. The idea is just bizarre.

I get WHY they did it (ratings since ending the game in a tie that one year apparently pissed everyone off) but this wasn't the answer to getting the ratings up. These things are ratings pits for all 4 sports, EVEN the NFL, making it "count" doesn't help.

I always thought it was ludicrous that they simply switched back and forth for home field advantage instead of going by best record. This system is just as silly. It should be done by best record, but nothing Bud Selig does really makes that much sense.

It wasn't just about ratings, it was also about players opting out of going to the All-Star Game by the dozens with notes from the school doctor and even the ones who went left the games early. They wanted to make the game more meaningful to the players as well as the fans.

Awesome double play by Chris Stewart today falling into the stands to catch it and then nailing the guy trying to tag

If I told you a team pitched a 1 hitter tonight and lost 4-2, what are the chances you say that team WASN'T the Astros?

I'd give the Cubs a 10% chance at that

I'm pretty sure a team pitched a no hitter against the Yankees and lost 4-0 back in the 80's or early 90's.

One hour in and it's still the second inning.

Source also tells OTL evidence provided about A-Rod is "far beyond" what Bosch gave them re Braun.

Not looking good for A-Rod

When Hafner stepped up to plate a minute ago the only thought that crossed my mind was please don't ground into a double play... It was really nice of the Yankees to schedule a road trip to Texas a week after I moved to Fort Worth but they forgot to bring the team.
