We ran a top line of Heatley-Brodziak-Johnson for a good portion of last season, with Powe as our 2nd line winger. We even had Warren ****ing Peters as our 1st line C at one point.
Injury problems? Yeah.
Even if you're a Vanny fan, there still no need to claim that I'm crazy and get personal like that.
We have Parise, Koivu, Heatley, Setoguchi, Bouchard, Cullen, Granlund, Coyle and Zucker, all ready to play in our top-6 right now. We also have Brodziak, Clutterbuck, Mitchell, Powe, Konopka, Veilleux, Dowell, Kassian, McIntyre, Bulmer, Palmieri and perhaps Larsson ready to play in our bottom-6.
Our depth is on a different planet compared to last year, and not a single one of those players would look out of place on an NHL roster. Our line-up on forward would probably look like this:
Brodin has legitimately been our Best defender. Ever since Suter has been paired with Brodin Suter has looked miles better. Brodin is going to be special, has the calmness and poise of a 10 year vet and skates so damn smoothly.
Gardiner has way higher value then Brodin, period.
Brodin has been absolutely phenomenal in his first 4 games. A 19 year old, Swedish defenseman that missed 11 weeks due to an injury and already showing poise, maturity and play years ahead of his age? Wild won't trade Brodin unless it's a major overpayment.
Rielly maybe a better offensive player, but all around, I would take Brodin. Seen Rielly play live a number of times and love his game and I would still take Brodin.
Brodin is unfreaking real already and he's only been playing for a few games. Any talk of trading for him would be having to bring back such a ridiculous amount it'd set your team back for years doing that deal. It's just not even worth entertaining the idea to be honest.
In my 35+ years of watching NHL hockey, very rarely could I ever say, I truly 'enjoyed' watching a defenseman play the game. Brodin truly is a blast to watch. Non Minnesota fans, just watch the next Wild game. You'll understand.
For my fellow leaf fans saying Gardiner is better than Brodin. Please stop posting. Brodin is a highly competent defenseman who positions himself almost perfectly every shift and has great offensive and stout defensive awareness. His maturity is what pushes him above many defensive prospects.
I enjoyed having Brodin playing for FBK and it was pretty obvious the kid had a lot of talent (him and Klefbom) but having talent and being a good SEL player and being able to translate that to the NHL is another thing so I am pleased to hear he is doing well for Minnesota.
I will try to catch some games to see for my self. Good luck to the Wild and Brodin this season.
The craziest part is that he played a handful of games to start the AHL year, then broke his clavical. This was fresh off of coming over from the SEL. Then he spends something like 9-11 weeks injured. Then comes back after playing 1 game in Houston to start with the Wild's top pairing next to Suter playing 20 minutes a night without missing a beat. The kid hasn't even gotten warmed up to the NA style of play yet not to mention he is coming off a broken collarbone. BEAST
JVR is intriguing but the Wild really need defensive stability. A lot of potential on the back end needs to be realized before we start trading it off.
