St. Louis, MO The St. Louis Blues acquired a huge piece for the present and future today, as they traded for defenseman Jack Johnson of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Going to Columbus are left wing Jaden Schwartz, defenseman Ian Cole, prospect Phil McRae and St. Louis' first round pick in the 2013 entry draft. The Blues paid a high price, but filled a huge need as they now have a perfect partner for Alex Pietrangelo. The young duo should be an excellent first pairing for years. The Blues are expected to make a couple more significant moves this deadline, so stay tuned.

BROZ LOVE

The Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Nail Yakupov and defenseman Ryan Whitney to the Philadelphia Flyers for forward Brayden Schenn, defenseman Luke Schenn and a conditionnal 2014 3rd round pick.

We have no doubt that Nail will be an elite talent at the NHL level but we didn't feel he was a right fit in our team philosophy. As for Ryan, we would like to thank him for his years but we weren't planning to bring him back next season. Brayden and Luke will both be important part of our core in the future and we are excited to have them in our organization. Brayden will be the perfect fit behind Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Luke will be in our top 4.

"Joffrey has given us a lot as a player but we felt we need to do what's best for his career and put him in a winning environment while building our future as well. We feel we've added a lot of value in this trade with Jamie and Radek.
Yikes....

For anyone looking for a top 6 center, Tomas Plekanec is getting closer and closer to getting traded.

GAGNER TRADED TO DALLAS

The Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Sam Gagner to the Dallas Stars for goaltender Jack Campbell.

Gagner is still young and he is very talented. We believe that he will benefit from a change of scenery to reach his potential. We are glad to add a young goalie with high potential like Jack Campbell.

Confirmed. Jack Johnson was a huge piece of our rebuild - named captain quite quickly. However, we knew that our prospect pool needed some bolstering, and we've done so in this trade. We grab 2 top forward prospects in Schwartz and McRae, a NHL ready blueliner in Cole, and a 1st in a deep draft. With defensemen like Fedor Tyutin, James Wizniewski and Adrian Aucoin we still have veteran players to provide steady support for Ryan Murray, Tim Erixon, John Moore, Ian Cole, David Savard, etc..

Brandon Dubinski, RJ Umberger, Fedor Tyutin (maybe), and Vinny Prospal remain on the block.

confirm both deals made so far today.

We know we gave up alot to get Gagner and Lupul, but now with Kari Lehtonen in net, and a top 9 forward group of:

Loui Eriksson-Jamie Benn-Ray Whitney
Brenden Morrow-Derek Roy-Joffrey Lupul
Jaromir Jagr-Sam Gagner-Michael Ryder

We feel we are set at both goalie and forward and can now focus on using the rest of our assets on upgrading the defensive end.

Our roster will be up shortly.

Jagr, Morrow, Roy and Ryder are all pending UFA's. Just a heads up.

(And Lupul, actually, as was mentioned earlier in this thread).

Also, you're doing it wrong. You're supposed to trade Glennie, and KEEP the good prospects.

Top 9 forwards available: Cullen (NTC), Brodziak, Clutterbuck
Top 6 d-men available: Gilbert, Scandella, Falk, Spurgeon (only for upgrades of course)
Goalies available: Harding or Backstrom
Propsects available: Coyle, Phillips, Cuma, Larsson, Haula, Zucker, 1st are highlights

Yeah I know. Thanks though! Adding Gagner, and hopefully resigning Lupul should help if I lose some of the above players.

Quite a bit of interest in Boyle, looking for prospects or a slightly lesser young player.

For teams looking for top line talent, we have Marleau/Thornton available.

Minor deal to announce:

Zach Boychuk

Andrew Cogliano

Carolina adds some depth up the middle in Cogs, good bottom-six guy who will also play a big part in our penalty kill.

We wish Zachary all the best in Anaheim.

confirm

We hate to lose a guy like Zubrus but Gaunce is a prospect who will help a lot in the future and we upgrade a 4th to a 2nd.
