I like the way this is going.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Don Fehr just spoke. Says NHL made a counter. NHLPA will look at it internally and both sides will meet again tomorrow at some point

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun
Bettman said they responded the NHLPA's way on some things they wanted in counter but also had to say no on other items the union wanted.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Bettman just met media. Measured in his comments. Asked if there's traction: "It's a process that's ongoing and I'm thankful for that."

But the NHLPA agreed (with some conditions) that the next CBA will be 10 years and not 8 like they previously asked.

This makes no sense, especially considering over half of the teams in the league make the playoffs as is.

Would the top couple teams get a bye? That's lame.

still wouldn't be as lame as the old 16 out of 21 in what KPD called "the original 21", back when that phrase was itself original, and actually funny.

This 2 playoff team add on is clearly a Burke thing.
Got to try and save his job somehow.

It makes sense from a financial standpoint as it means that more teams will get to benefit from the extra playoff revenue. I don't necessarily like what it means to the sport itself but it's a move I can definitely understand in a league where teams are losing money.

to me, that says the owners care less about the product they put on the ice and are concerned with getting a better chance at making the playoffs for that additional revenue.

While I think it is good to have teams get rest, I think hockey is better when it is played consistently throughout the playoffs - a bye week is a turnoff for me personally.

Also, that could be up to 7 more games per season for some of those players

Agree. But there is also talk that 7 teams make the playoffs and the next 4 have a play in for the 8th spot. At least both sides have discussed it.

IMO, if there are 2 more teams from each conference added to the playoffs, It's a pre-cursor to expansion next season. Hello Toronto and Seattle. Quebec City will be the new home of the Coyotes by then.

Guys it has to be a play in 7 vs 10, 8 vs 9 Or atleast I would hope, And I hate the thought of them tampering with the play-offs its perfect as is.
