12 years old player on WJC?

I found this player - Jarosław Kuc from Poland, born 23.02.1978

Eurohockey listen him as a member of the Poland national team in season 1989/1990.

It is true? because if yes, he was only 12 years old!

Well, looks that way. Before 2007, IIHF didn't use to have any kind of age limits after all. Nowadays, it's 15 for U20 and U18 level (counted from the day the tournament starts) and 18 for the men's tournament (players who are at least 16 years old can be applied with a special waiver).

Wonder what's the story. Statwise, he didn't appear all that useful.

He played Poland U20 team in 89-90 WJC and 90-91 WJC in division I.

Then 94-95 and 95-96 he played for Poland in U18 division I...

I wonder why did he play in U20 level when he was 12 and 13 but not after that.

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=96356

IMO seems ********

A 12 year old player in U-20 WJC today would be incredibly unsafe! Imagine Tyler Biggs or Brett Ritchie catching him with his head down?

Not so outlandish, really. Poland isn't exactly a hockey power. Maybe they at the time simply didn't have better junior D-men born earlier in the 70s.

Once 1993 rolled around they could however fill squad with elder prospects who had matured enough in the preceding two years. And once he was in 18-19 range, those born at the same time as he had developed into better players.

judging from eliteprospect stats there must be a mistake somewhere. First he plays on the U20 team as a 12 year old, SIX years later he plays on the U18 team without doing much stats wise. So he didn't improve at all from age 12 to 18?

I mean, it could be something where he got big early and was dominant at an early age, but as other people caught up, he didn't continue to develop.

apparently someone from Eurohockey.com saw this topic. Jaroslav Kuc is already listen only in EJC B 1994/95 and 1995/96

People from Eliteprospects haven't, though

Why didn't he play at the U-18 at an early age then?

It could well be aother guy with the same name, or maybe an older brother with a similar first name.

edit: indeed there is a Jacek Kuc in the WJC teams http://eurohockey.com/club/5341-pola...62&season=1991

Hope Barkov can apply if hes chosen.. Probably Kummola will make it happen anyway (something good for having that greedy *******) but that was first time I heard that there is actually 18years age limit.
