You mean most Austrians?

Wonder if Danish people would've preferred to be called Dutch?

So Segal gets the call for Ashams suspension... a bit surprising

aha yeah, but to make my point more known is that the Swedes and the Swiss have been putting up some very good talent IMHO. Especially the Swiss. Guys like Brunner and Baertschi will make their new teams and be very good with their play. Players that have already been with NHL club(s) like Niederreiter, Josi, Streit, Hiller, Weber, Diaz, and the oldie in Gerber have excelled to be solid NHLers. I believe that the Swiss are really starting to get the job done with stable players coming overseas and it showed in their ability at the WJC's this year. Not to also mention there are players like Sven Andrighetto and Alessio Bertaggia that are undrafted prospects that really should get the nod on a contract.

Not to knock the Swedes because they are still at the very top with player progression, but I feel that the Swiss are catching peoples' eyes.

Yeah not sure what this is about? Would've definitely picked Haley or Hrivik (injured). Speaking of which, how's his status?

When Ashams suspension is over (and Segal likely returns) and Hrivik & Niemi return to duty after their concussions (hopefully soon) then this is something close to what the Whale will look like:

Hrivik - Newbury - Kolarik
Mashinter - Miller - Thomas
Haley - Jean - Segal
Bourque - Tessier - Yogan
Wiebe, Wilson

Collins - McIlrath
Klassen - Parlett
Vernace - Pyett
Niemi

Still need some help on the D IMO
Plus another depth guy up front maybe
Very young team

The deal for Mashinter was immediately preceded by CT's slug fest, hmmm. It's a good move. McIlrath can't be expected to handle all that's coming (a lot) on his own.

Told Brandon Segal (NYR) will have to clear waivers if/when returned to AHL

Wow, maybe they'll really keep him as the spare 13th forward after all!

Doubt it. He cleared waivers yesterday. He will clear again on Sunday to Monday.

If anything I think that's why he got the nod instead of Haley/Newbury/Kolarik. They'd rather expose him instead of other players.

I doubt he would get claimed as well.

BUT, he didn't clear yesterday - as re-entry waivers don't exist anymore...

He was waived on the way down, though.

Took treatment and worked out at practice today. Did not skate. RT @winonyc: @HawkCrawford @CTWhale any sine of Hrivik around the rink?
- Crawford

Well, at least he's not home resting. Would prefer to hear he skated though...

"Torts hopes Brandon Segal is not "one and done" and can stick as depth forward; wants to keep Stu Bickel on D, rather than spare winger.

If he's working out, that's a good sign, and it shouldn't be a serious injury. Probably will be back in a week, give or take a couple days.

"The thing that caught my eye the 8 or 9 games I watched him at Hartford is that he is really good along the wall," Rangers head coach John Tortorella said of the 29 year-old Segal. "He's been a good player for them. This guy deserves a chance, so we're hoping this isn't one and done. We're hoping he's part of our depth."

Ex-#CTWhale Tim Erixon, Tomas Kundratek, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, & Tim Kennedy also named to the Eastern Conference All-Star squad.
Quite the little squad there
No Casey Wellman?
Jason Krog is in Sweden, otherwise pretty sure he would be there too
