Ya I've had Jones at #1 all year. I'm starting to think MacKinnon might fall behind Barkov and Drouin as well though.
Which is a shame/lucky for whoever picks him up at #4 overall. He's being misused by the coaching staff. When he's given the chance, he flies. Absolutely flies.
Has anyone else been really impressed by Nichuskin from the Russian team. He's huge, a good skater, and he has some decent offensive instincts. The first comparison I thought of after watching him play was Jordan Staal.
I would still love to see the Oilers find a way to draft Monahan but if they end up with a top 10 pick and Nichuskin projects as a centreman, he'd be an intriguing option.
I've seen him listed as both a centreman and a winger. He's playing wing right now I believe but the jury is out on if he can play at centre.
The KHL contract is obviously a concern. That could make him a potential steal on draft day if teams are worried about him coming over. With our young depth, we can afford to gamble a little bit.
Isn't it only 2 after this year? Either way, how many non lottery prospects are NHL ready before then anyways?
True, but if given the choice, I pick the one who doesnt have a pro contract in the khl. Especially if he is Russian.
But to be fair, he would have to be interviewed to see what his priorities are. If he is burning to play in the nhl and is willing to come over after his deal is done, even to play in the ahl if need be, then you may feel comfortable taking him. The size/strength/skill package is going to be very appealing to nhl teams for sure.

Oh for sure. If you get the Radulov vibe, find someone else. If he drops enough though, even if you have to wait a little longer for him, if he's much better than other players available, you take him imo. Maybe he sees Yak ripping it up over here and decides he wants to be a part of it after a few years right?
Watching Nuge dominate at the WJHC is what it must have been like watching Gretzky dominate the NHL every night. The guy plays so much like Gretzky it's uncanny. And the best part is hearing Ray Ferraro foaming at the mouth with adoration.

As good as Nuge has been, it is still not like watching Gretzky. That said he does have a great deal of Gretzky in his game.
I actually think this is why so many people come away from watching him and say they were not that impressed. People use to say the same thing about Gretzky, especially early in his career. Lafleur, for example, was a tremendously dynamic player. Everything he did was right there for you to see. But like Gretzky, so much of Nuge's game is very subtle. If you blink you miss it.
Grigorenko looks like a steal at where he was drafted by the Sabres.
No doubt. He looks just as good as yakupov has this tournament. I really was hoping the Oil would have somehow traded and had both.
I hate to say it but yakupov has been underwhelming every opportunity I have had to watch him. However, his stats in every game I havent seen say otherwise.
Maybe it's just because the Germans have been the 'whipping boys', but when this Russian team decides to pass the puck around it's something else. They're moving it really well so far this game.
Edit: Yaks with a beauty dish to Zharkov for the 3-0 goal. He is flying in this first period.
