makes sense.

last time i looked, the angels wanted an "innings eater".

vargas in his last three seasons (going backwards)? 217.1, 201, 192.2.

he'll eat innings. he won't pitch well, but he'll eat innings at around a league average rate.

He'll eat innings. He eats them raw.

Plus, his change-up is the best in the league (according to Fangraphs)

He's still serviceable though. I would have loved to get him on the Jays and ship out Lind. Could have traded Happ plus some other parts to get him I bet. It's not like Vargas is sensational or anything.

this is a win - win.

Seattle needs a vetren big Dh bat. Check

LA needs to upgrade their SP. As we all have learned this offseason, SP is more valuable than ever. you gotta overpay to eat innings.

I feel like Seattle could of went out-of-division and got equal value for Vargas. Slight win for LA in that regard.

Yeah, I thought Morales would get LAA more than Vargas. I guess this means Bourjos stays in the OF with Hamilton/Trout and they will make Trumbo DH?

From an M's perspective I love it. They need hitting and power and Morales gives them that at the cost of not a lot.

It's decent for both sides. Thought the Angels would be able to get someone better though.

Yes. That should be a very strong outfield defensively.

2 good takes from USSmariner:

Who's likely to step into the rotation for Seattle? Curious.

If, Morales can show any kind of semblance of a decent hitter, it's a great trade for the M's. Vargas has really ugly home/away splits aided by pitching in Safeco Field.

Well, he's at least a decent hitter so that shouldn't be a problem. It may not work out this year but if the M's make some moves in the next year they could have something going. Still have a way to go but Morales is no scrub. He can flat out hit. I have a feeling he has a big bounce back year coming off of his "injury comeback year" even in Safeco.

Felix and Iwakuma mortal locks. Beavan is almost sure. Last two spots between Hultzen, Paxton, Noesi and Furbush. They probably sign another veteran.

Beavan is far from a lock. He wasn't good last season. Felix and Iwakuma are definites. Erasmo Ramirez looks like he should have a spot to lose, and the other two spots may be addressed through free agency or from the list you mentioned, though none of those guys may be ready yet.

Would they be keeping Wells then as an extra OF? I don't see them getting anywhere close to fair value, even if they eat a large chunk of his contract.
