One of my most disliked Canadian teams I've seen. I'm not saying they're bad (they do seem pretty bad though), I just don't like the personnel. Didn't agree with Subban getting the nod. Don't agree with Murphy.
Don't like Mackinnon getting minimal ice time.
Don't like Spott.
Just bad, bad, bad, and this is the accumulation of a lot of bad decisions by Hockey Canada.
Ryan Murphy is mind-numbingly bad at this level. Just horrendous.
Don't get me wrong. The other D have been poor too. Oulette looked silly on the 4th goal, and Reinhardt and Wotherspoon have had their share of dumb plays. But Murphy is playing noticeably worse.
I don't like Subban's style. I know it's the new rage now to play positions and percentages and to be big, but with Subban it feels like he's waiting (and hoping) for the puck to hit him rather than working to make a save.

I dont think corrado would make a difference here, defense has been poor but at least they are involved in the game, what the hell is the gate on the bench broken for the forwards, haven't seen them all game
Spott will be questioned on his roster decisions, and style of play. It comes with the job.
Corrado wouldn't have stopped this onslaught.
Canada has to construct lines with a purpose. For instance, have a two-way line that can steady the team when things are going poorly. So far, that seems to be Danault and company. Play them more when things get shaky. They can create momentum if they stick to a style and give the rest of the team time to regroup.
For goaltending, they have to go with the steadier, if less athletic option.
Spott can not let his perverted obsession for Murphy go. Murphy not only regressed for the rangers this year, but he had a whopping zero points in this tournament. Zero points while getting every chance to succeed on the PP, this guy his horrid.
A bad game up and down the line-up. Subban looked shaky in all but one game this tournament. I guess the pre-tournament jitters about our goaltending situation were justified. You can't hang this game all on Subban though, terrible positioning by forwards and D. They came out flat footed and USA made them pay for it. When Canada showed a glimmer of life, they take a bad too many men penalty.
We got one goal that shouldn't have counted. Yes the whistle shouldn't have blown anyway, which was a big officiating mistake, but once the whistle blows USA is free to give up on the play. They compounded one mistake with another. Just another head-scratcher from the terrible officiating we saw all tournament.
Also, I noticed that it was not a well attended game, considering it was between two top tier teams in a semi-final game. Ufa turned out to be a poor venue choice by the IIHF.

From what I read they're not far from the European attendance record set by Helsinki back in 96 (or something like that). Won't break it, but even the fact that they came close means that this is a pretty good venue. The attendance has been better than it usually is in Europe.
Canada's coaching was horrible in this game but the roster was a nightmare to begin with. Not ONE energy player out there... anyone see ANY hustle in the American zone, see any American D knocked off a puck for a turnover... Bueller?
Why Spott wasn't rolling his lines with quick shifts for the 1st period is beyond me... RNH's line was out there WAY too much and he waited far too long to put the Moosehead boys back together. It was an atrocious display or bench management, line structure and overall game plan.
As far as goaltending goes I don't know why you wouldn't put the bigger guy in there... you know the US is gonna chrash the crease, create traffic etc. so why choose the smallest goalie on the roster to face that style of game? Those first two goals would have just hit Binnington instead of sailing over Subban's shoulders. Binnington looked great when he got in there... Subban just gave up after the 1st period, looked HORRIBLE. Have fun Boston! Again... a brutal decision by the coach.
