A Canadian website calling a clutch Canadian the number 1 wjc player of all time ? No....

At least it's not a completely homer pick. He doesn't stand head and shoulders above everyone else, so it's a debatable pick.

I think we should clarify (if it makes a difference) that Eberle was voted as Team Canada's #1 player of all time.

Personally I would've voted for Lindros, but there's a very good argument for Eberle too. And he has that "lore" about him for being so clutch, something that's not soon forgotten. I couldn't tell you a single thing about Paul Henderson's playing career but I know what he did for Team Canada.

You do realize it's a list of the top Canadian WJC players ever, right?

Anyway, Eberle was great but I don't think he's #1. Lindros was better, at least.

I have no issue with Eberle ranked #1. I think Toews is too high though. And that is an awesome Gretzky picture.

His goal in 2009 stands out, but he did even better in 2010. It sure was less dramatic because there wasn't only 5 seconds left, but he did bring back Canada in the gold medal game by himself. Too bad we lost in OT, because Eberle's legacy as a WJC Team Canada player would be even greater.

The whole list is suspect when you are comparing players who played 1, 2, or 3 years. I would have rather have based it on who was the best for Canada in a single tournament.

Also, pre-medal round 1996 and post are very different tournaments. Its hard to compare eras.

Craig Button was on the panel, so we know its irrelevant and biased. At least that's what hf posters have taught me lately.

Yeah scoring 2 goals with just under 3 minutes left to tie the game. Only for Canada to lose in OT. So two years in a row with clutch performances in the WJC.

Timing is everything. He's obviously not the best player the tournaments seen.
He's arguably one of the most effective.

One thing Eberle always did was impact the important games like no one else. At times no one else did or more times than anyone else did.

Haha, so bitter.

He's a great player, but Rielly isnt the 4th best prospect in the league, get over it. Maybe he will be by the end of the season, or next.

Perhaps you should re-analyze the article. He's the #1 CANADIAN WJC player, not #1 WJC player.

For me its Tavares over Eberle. However both are more or less the top players in my era. Eberle is famous because of 1 goal.

Tavares 2 golds

Vs

Eberle's Gold and Silver

Plus the fact that Tavares was apart in 08golds and 09golds with Eberle in 09 gold and 10 silver.

The difference is that Tavares is a year younger.

That is my debate.

Eberle was more of a regular players both Championships while Tavares was basically the 13th forward/PP specialist in 2008...I know Tavres was only 17 still didn't dominate

Excellent choice. Toews should be ranked a little higher.

The old format led to some inflated totals, but its nice that 99 doesn't get every award.

Wonder what team USA top 10 would like?

You'd have to think alot of them are from that '10 team.

For those saying Lindros, Eberle point total average per year played was actually better I do believe.
