Whats all this Fox Sports 1 Hype?

Whats so great about it? I keep getting it jammed down my throat via commercials and crap. Is it replacing a channel? Will we get it on DirectTV? Will I know any of the names? I highly doubt they will do anything big like NFL Games

It is currently "Speed" TV and there are ongoing issues with various carriers.

That Fox is converting an existing channel — Speed — into Fox Sports 1 means it does not have to start from scratch. But Fox does have to show its upgraded channel is worth 80 cents per home, about 1/7th what ESPN commands, according to 2013 figures provided by SNL Kagan, a media data analysis firm. It's also more than triple the 20-25 cents Speed earned.

"When you eliminate ESPN, which gets $5.40 a home, the next highest is probably TNT and they are $1.10," says Pilson, now president of his own communications company and a Columbia University professor. "To start out at 80 cents is significant. Most of the channels are 15 to 50 cents. It is a big step for Fox, but they justify it by saying, 'Look we are going to have all sorts of sports programming.' "

Still, industry followers don't seem worried about cable carriers and Fox dickering on price and placement.

Thompson notes "the safe bet is to never bet in favor of a recently launched cable channel," but also recognizes things change "when you are going up against Goliath and David is Rupert Murdoch, that's not a bad David. Rupert Murdoch is hardly a little shepherd boy. They (Fox) bring an awful lot of voltage."

At Least Seven Distributors Have Agreed To Carry FS1

Comcast, Cablevision, Charter, Cox, Verizon, AT&T and Suddenlink -- distributors that account for nearly 45 million subscribers -- have committed to carry FS1 on its Aug. 17 launch. That leaves DirecTV, Dish Network, Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks -- accounting for more than 47 million subscribers -- as the distributors that do not have deals in place for FS1 yet even though its launch date is just five days away. All four distributors are in active negotiations for FS1, sources say. (Time Warner Cable handles programming negotiations for Bright House.) When Fox announced the channel earlier this year, it said it planned to launch FS1 into 90 million homes.

I'm curious if Speed in Canada will be replaced by FS1? Then we'd still get Jay & Dan

I doubt CRTC allows FS1 in Canada. In fact they have probably already ruled against it.

When is their show supposed to debut? Was it a weekly or daily show?

Apparently we're not getting it in Canada. They're completely changing the content by going from Speed to FS1 so they would need to go through the CRTC to get it approved and that won't happen because of TSN/Sportsnet. It's unfortunate because I'm a big UFC fan and I like a lot of the analysts they've hired for their other sports coverage.

TSN has affiliation with ESPN. Is Sportsnet connected to any American sports network?

As much as I HATE to say this about Crime Warner. I don't think a station can survive without them and DirectTV.

The US Open? I can't believe they got that from ESPN. I'm shocked ESPN would let them pry it away seeing as aside from The Masters and British it's the only golf they do anymore.

To a degree. But I can live without Pac 12 and Conference USA Football. Big 12 is decent though
