If Grigorenko can combine his skill with the work ethic and overall demeanor of Hechtonville, he'll be a star in no time.
Having Pominville on that line is asking for trouble. Lindy is going to rely on Pominville a ton, and he'll probably be the ice time leader for forwards on a nightly basis. Putting a rookie center and injury prone wing with him is forcing those two into more minutes than they should be getting.
I'm not worried about Grigs's offensive output here. I want him to be with stable, veteran guys who can bail him out. Pommer would fit here, but I want him with Vanek/Hodgson.

That's not true. You know that no matter what line they're on, Poms and Hecht will be the 1st PK unit. Just because the three of them are together doesn't mean that any of them will have the same ice time, as Poms will be a primary PKer and PPer. Grigorenko would see PP time but no PK, and the opposite would be the same for Hecht.

Total ice time, that's true. For ES time, Pominville's going to be getting 14+ minutes per night, possibly more. Lindy likes to keep younger guys and rookies in the 10-12 minutes range for ES. Putting Grigs on a line with Pominville is going to give him a couple extra minutes of ES time per night, which might be unfair to do to him.

If he plays Grigs with Hecht-Poms, and the Sabres are leading in the last 10 minutes, Grigs will be stapled to the bench, and Hodgson or even Ott will play with them.

I could see Grigorenko getting the Adam treatment last year...well hopefully just his ice time at the beginning of the season.
I like it. He's in game shape, has been playing great in Germany and is a reliable utility player. He's best as a third line shut down guy and PK man, but he can fill in anywhere if needed.
That's my fear. If they aren't going to give him PP time and a regular shift it's not worth keeping him up here just to kill his confidence.
I liked how Adam was used in the beginning of the year...some PP time, lots of offensive zone starts and then a place on the bench in the final minutes to protect a lead. As long as a Hecht - Grig - Poms line is used that way I'd be a big fan...get the kid's feet wet, and let him do his thing.
I don't know why anyone would be upset about signing Jochen to a 1 yr deal for a 48 game season.
It must be because our lineup already has soooo many 2 way forwards and PKers with experience and leadership qualities.
must be...
My concern is how he's used, not so much Hecht himself. If Lindy uses him as a top player because things don't go as expected like he ALWAYS does, I'm going to blow a gasket. First line hasn't produced a point in two games? HECHT GO CENTER THAT LINE
And there goes any chance of Grigs playing more than 9 games for the sabres this season....
Poor read of the situation IMO.
The Sabres have invested a lot in some really talented young centers. Hecht is cheap insurance if the young centers (Grigs in particular) are not able to compete yet.
If Grigs plays well in his 6 game tryout, then Hecht's role is diminished. If Grigs looks like he is not quite ready then Hecht's role increases (not top 6).
