Listen to their newest album. Definitely 10/10 for me and is now immediately among one of my favourite albums ever. Incredible.

You know what's more incredible?

This was the kind of music they made before they changed their name to Polyenso. This is the first time in a long time I felt an album was just perfect and I listened to this album only about 5 times.

Sounds like a mix between Radiohead and Wintersleep.

Holy crap indie rock sure is hella boring.

Also how can you have a best of 2013 when the first month of the year isn't even finished?

-He began as an underground artist, so I would assume many fans believe they hold a certain "ownership" over his music. Thanks to word of mouth, blogs, and umm, not so legal downloading, he's become a mixtape success story on route to a record deal with Interscope.

-He's neither hateful nor angry. In fact, he was one of the few rappers to claim that he couldn't care less about some one's sexual orientation. I think this perhaps appeals him to non hip-hop fans.

-He makes excellent slow-jams and party anthems. His songs are often about having a good time. Sometimes simplicity works best.

-He has a likeable personality, like a kid who's just happy to have made it. For example, there's a great video of him meeting Rakim for the first time, whom he's actually named after.

-Although he's not the strongest of lyricists (unlike Kendrick Lamar), he's surrounded himself with some great hip-hop producers, namely Clams Casino.

-He's still hood, still authentic. After all, he grew up in Harlem. Which reminds me, legitimately talented rappers from NYC tend to have many "cheeleaders", be they fellow artists, radio DJs, and etc. If you can "pass the bar" in New York so to speak, you're more or less approved.

-You know you've made it when you've coined a word ("trill").
I'm sorry, what?!? Are you saying ASAP invented the word Trill?? That word has been used for yeaaars, (just listen to some UGK) I know this is a hockey board and not a hiphop board but i thought this was a pretty well know expression...

As for ASAP, meh, idk whats the big deal about him, yeah his first mixtape was great, but mainly because of the production...hes nothing more than a new Curen$y to me ( mediocre rapper over great production..) His new album has like 3 good songs (goldy, problems,train..) .

Anyway back on topic, havent listened to much of 2013 music...still catching up on 2012! Oh yeah, i dl'd this album yesterday and so far it's good :

https://soundcloud.com/bulk-recordings/sets/pillowfight

(Pillow Fight ; Dan the automator + Emily Wells)

Most anticipated release of 2013 is The national if they do release an album this year...

Also, why can't you imbed vimeo clips on HF yet? Google video? Seriously...
Anyways, found this song from Toronto band Memoryhouse today. Gorgeous tune.

Haven't listened to much 2013 stuff yet, but I'm enjoying Long.Live.A$AP.

Just looking at a release calendar, I'm looking forward to...

J.Cole - Born Sinner
Joe Buddon - No Love Lost
Hollerado - White Paint
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Mosquito

That's a pretty small list. I'll find lots of random, never-knew-this-was-coming-out! and never-heard-these-guys-before! albums to pick up during the year.

Very excited for The North Borders by Bonobo coming out in April. Black Sands is still my favorite album of the last ten years.

Awesome news, although they did release that Heady Fwends vinyl last year. But I think it's safe to say were all excited for a Flaming Lips album without Ke$ha on it.

Yessir. I enjoyed it.

My biggest question is does Andreya Triana sing on the album and does she play with the Bonobo band live? She was such an important part to Black Sands both on the album and live and her solo record is almost a sorta companion album to it.

I used to be like that. Now I take pride in supporting artists I enjoy listening to. Especially knowing many of them aren't millionaires and are still true to their art, stay genuine. It's good to support these indie artists and lesser known musicians and bands, they work hard and bring us joy, they deserve it IMO. Why the heck not support them financially? Most of their money comes from the grind of touring nowadays.

No, but I recently read somewhere that they have an announcement to make soon. Hoping it's a new album. :p

I really hope so. The first two albums were stellar. Outside of "Duermete" the last album didn't have a lot of substance.
