FC's December Ranking fo the 2013 NHL Draft

Simply put, here is our December ranking for the 2013 NHL Draft. Things are getting hot and heavy around Christmas. This draft, to say the least, is deep.

As scouting director Dan Stewart put it in the notes he sent me:

Quote:
Currently FC has just under fifity (48 to be exact) prospects that we have identified as having first round talent and are playing themselves into consideration for our top 30 rankings each and every month. This draft possesses the closest semblance talent-wise to the storied 2003 draft that I have seen with only 2005 coming as close.
Without wasting anymore time, the ranking:

Quote:
Rank / Pos. / Name / Team / League / Ht / Wt /

1). C/RW Nathan MacKinnon, Halifax, QMJHL, 6-0, 180
2). D Seth Jones, Portland, WHL, 6-4, 205
3). C Aleksander Barkov, Tappara, SM-liiga, 6-2, 205
4). C Elias Lindholm, Brynas, Elitserien, 6-0, 185
5). C Sean Monahan, Ottawa, OHL, 6-2, 195

Waiting for Drouin to crack that top 5

I wonder where Shinkaruk will end up by the end of the season

I'm more wondering if we'll see Barkov at #2 after the World Juniors! Being a stone's throw away from Medicine Hat, I too am interested to see what kind of second half Shinkaruk has. He's got one assist and is -3 in two games since being cut from Canada's team, but by no means is that an indication he's slowing up. Too small a sample size.

1. Erne is much too low. I'd have him in the top-15.

2. Where on earth is Lehkonen? He's absolutely in my first round, probably top-20.

I like this list with a few slight changes that can be made IMO.

Artturi Lehkonen keeps on improving but keeps on falling on the lists. Weird.

The did preface the whole article stating they have almost 50 (48) players with 1st round talent. Looks like FC is just showing their preferences.

From first glance, the US NTDP forwards that have been on the list consistently are gone: Fasching and Compher.

Also noticed that De La Rose, Duclair, Carrier, and Lehkonen are not on the list either.

Hey Aaron, have you ever thought of posting the next 18 first round talents as Honourable Mentions?

It's easy enough to look back at previous lists and guess, but that would be a cool addition to your lists.

Cheers, thanks for the read.

I figure Drouin will be in the top 5 within the next little while most likely at Monahan's expense.

The top 15 for this draft is superb. Ugh if only we had a season going right now to prosperly determine the draft order.

Draft order is the least of the reasons I want the season to begin.

From what I hear, there is very much a split opinion on Erne in NHL circles. Some teams think he's a Top 10 pick, and others think that he's a product of a good team but can't create for himself or others.

The occasional time I've seen them they have been pretty mediocre.
