Neither are my team but I can see yandle and stastny being the basis of a deal. Phoenix gets a #1 C while Colorado gets another 1D, each dealing from a position of strength.

Relatively fair, straight up. However I can see some other pieces being exchanged both ways, like a third line veteran centre going to the Avalanche with a good winger/center going back, such as McGinn.
Purely speculation, as value may be off and I don't know their needs too well.
Avs fans should start by naming pieces that A.) They feel managment would be willing to part with and B.) They feel would reel in a top pairing defenseman
Poor title choice. We want a top pairing D to play alongside Johnson. If you say top 4, you will get some horrible offers.
Not your prototypical top pairing D, but Tallinder could fill that role. He's done great in pairings with younger guys like Fayne, Myers, and at times last year Larsson (although not too often with Larsson).
To be honest, you guys have a lot of forward depth, and on the cusp of being a playoff team. The Avs have specifically three very good centerman. I know you don't want to part with any of them but top pairing defensemen are hard to come by and even harder to get. You are going to have to start with one of O'Rielly/Stastny/Duchene.
Edler for Duschene (the contract situations make up for the relative performance difference).

The Avs wait 6 months and see what kind of $$$ they can throw at Edler and try to get him for FREE.
If not, they wait and see what kind of players guys like Barrie, Elliott and Siemens turn into before creating one hole just to fill another. The Avs' core is extremely young, there's no rush here.

Not a chance. Rather wait until FA, hope Edler makes it there, and try and get him for nothing. Certainly would not give up Duchene for someone who could walk.
