USA up 6-2. Will likely advance, but they aren't beating Japan.

rarely do top heavy all-star teams do well. even if it's a hypothetical situation, i think a less overall talented but still extremely talented dominican team that, once again, is built up the middle with power and speed on offense and quality defense wins in the end.
Still doesn't explain how we would get our ***** handed to us when our pitching is much better. I get what you are saying, but how can you say a team with that quality of pitching wouldn't stand a chance?

because i think the dominicans would beat the us's pitching and their deeper pitching staff relying on their better defense would play better baseball, resulting in a series win?

Not so fast, they have to play the heavyweight Canada tomorrow.

Joe Torre is a great manager

Took this team a lot farther than I expected, especially with the dearth of talent on the American roster

You've got to be mad that the best players don't want in on this thing. If Verlander and CC were pitching, the US would be unstoppable.

Okay, but you're acting like that US team is bad defensively. Outside of Fielder, that is a good defensive team - would likely make Braun DH

and that team has good speed as well, along with the power. Trout, Wright, Kemp, Braun, even Hamilton all have good wheels. Hell even pedroia steals 20 bags.

It's not like they'd be making a mockery out there in the field..Tulo is considered to be one of the best defensive shortstops in the game.

why would they? there's nothing in it for them and i'm sure the tigers would be having chest pains every time verlander threw a pitch.

We need the best players in this thing

Won't win it without them

Someone said before, US isn't focused on winning it, or else they'd recruit the best players that are out there. And I can see why they don't want their best players, Teixiera got hurt

Who are players from other countries that aren't playing that could be? I don't think the US is the only team missing players, although we are definitely missing the most. Cueto isn't pitching for DR, Cinci didn't want him to go?

he said that he wanted to be with the mariners and i took it as him understanding that the mariners made a gigantic financial contribution to him and really showed him that he was their guy and i'm sure behind closed doors they might have asked that he not play.

if you're looking for something to read between avicii and budweiser horse commercials, you could read this interview with brendan mccarthy.

Anyone else think it'd be kind of weird competing against the country you were born and spent your entire life in? I know Italian-Americans are all about letting everyone know how Italian they are, but still just seems strange
