Who Could Cut A Better Promo In Their Prime?

Quite a difficult question indeed.

They both have different styles. Both are great promo workers.

HBK "in his prime" was lets say...not a person for the better...

Not to say Austin was an angel, but definitely SCSA in this situation.

Never really found HBK's mic work to be all that compelling. Then when he saw the light or whatever happened, he just hammed it up way too much with his pals when he cut promos and acted like a 12 year old. Not even close to Austin IMO.

Steve Austin - the Rattlesnake character he played is his reality so to speak. It's who he is in real life.

Gotta go w/ Stone Cold here. HBK was the all-around entertainer. He, obviously, has cut some great promos before, but Stone Cold delivered promos people still talk about today.

Completely different styles, but this one goes to SCSA.

edit: 3 posts at the same time? That was crazy.

HBK is one of the great all-round performers of all time, IMO, but this goes to Steve Austin.

Shawn Michaels on the mic in 96/97 was fantastic stuff though.

Its Austin. He's a natural.

But credit HBK for honing his mic skills. If you see some of his earlier promos, he came a really long way.

Austin, HBK was more athletic yet couldn't outshine WCW, while Austin could.

No one was going to beat WCW and the NWO at that time on their own.

I never thought Michaels was terribly good on the mic. He's had some dumb/funny moments, but as a whole I found him to be too over the top and not too believable.

Austin was awesome, though.

I say this as someone who preferred Michaels to Austin overall, though.

On a scale of 1-10, Shawn Michaels was a 7 at best.

His promo was actually the weakest part of his package IMO.

Stone Cold and nothing will ever change my mind on that.

He put the attitude in the attitude era.

HBK could work the mic well, but no doubt it's Austin.

Those promo's HBK was cutting during the Hogan feud were all fantastic. Possibly some of the best from the 00's. All the reports online were talking about the backstage beef between HBK and Hogan because of difficulties on the creative side of the things, and from the way HBK spoke, you could just tell there was some legit anger brewing.

He also delivered some great promos in his feuds with Hart, too. Always felt real and always were passionate. But he's still not on Austin's level. Austin could make a sing-along work. Austin could get a "what" chant and take it to different levels. He also was great at knowing when to be serious and bad ass.

I think HBK is underrated when it comes to his mic skills, but that's because we most recognize him for his funny comedy skits w/ DX. They were more entertainment as opposed to just cutting a promo.

Austin was one of the best promo men that ever exsisted in this industry. HBK was pretty good but just not at that level.
