Yep, Porter isn't a replacement for anyone on our 4th line...now I do like Crombeen and Lewis more than I like Chipchura, but I can't say that I'd pay the extra 300k to get either one of those guys over Chips.

Or he was fully aware of DT's lack of patience for young players, escpecially offense first players. He knew DT was always going to have him on a tight leash and never allow him to play his game.

There are a lot of reasons it could have been.

No thanks. That ship has sailed.

Klesla seems to calm everyone down. He is a very smart player, knows when to pinch, throw a hit, blocks shoots, very few turnovers. Underated player as far as I am concerned.

Z
Conditional 2nd in 2013

*They get a 2nd if he re-signs with us, they get a 5th if he doesn't.
Thoughts?

We get a solid center, Detroit gets a solid blue liner. This trade benefits both teams. Flip would probly slot into our #1 Center role.

For fun, let's say Maloney decides to detonate the team in a fit of managerial rage, as a parting gift. The league, having been forced to sell the team to a Canadian group, lets him do it.

Approximate Values*:

* Note that approximate value includes equivalent players. Three first round picks could be comprised of any combination approaching the value of said picks. Two bluechippers + a 1st, for example. Also note that there is some leeway between a top 10 pick and a late round 1st.

High Demand
OEL - 3 1sts
Yandle - 2 1sts + 2nd
Hanzal - 2 1sts
Boedker - 1st + 2nd
Vrbata - 1st
Doan - 1st
Vermette - 1st
Morris - 2nd
Klesla - 2nd
Gordon - 2nd
Stone - 2nd

Sporadic Demand
Moss - 2nd
Michalek - 2nd
Smith - 2nd
Sullivan - 3rd
Schlemko - 4-6
Torres - 4-6
Chipchura - 5-7
Johnson - 5-7
LOLBarbs - 5-7
Summers - 5-7
Biz - a cheap domestic beer

2013 Draft Picks

1 - PHX
2 - PHX
3 - PHX
5 - PHX
6 - PHX
7 - PHX

For any of you who are into fantasy style trades (rt I'm looking at you) your mission is to assemble, based off terrible guesswork, the best team possible for 2013-2014 while trading as many pieces as possible. Slotting in 2013 draftees in order to appeal to HF's tastes is highly encouraged.

Colorado has 8 points this year from their blue line. In total. From all defensemen. Expect every answer from Coyotes fans to be Yandle. Expect 75% of answers from Colorado fans to be OEL.

I think the longer his hold goes, the less Colorado can get as a return. I think they can't get Keith Yandle type value now. If he were signed and playing, maybe more likely. This season is a throw away, so young talent like Runblad plus Summers/Schlemko or a pick, is what I think they will get from the coyotes or somebody else.

I disagree. The Avs would be better off waiting. The possibility of getting a top5 pick in this years draft is appealing (from tanking), more teams would be in play at the draft (because they will be attempting to prepare for the next season's roster), and RO'R would have sacrificed a year of UFA eligibility. The Avs have more of an incentive to wait vs trading him now.

Good article that takes a closer look at Ryan O'Reilly's on ice effectiveness.

It is worth reading.

Rundblad and Michalek for ROR would balance out the dollars. Tough to lose Z but we have the depth to manage it.

That hockey prospectus article is a bit of an eye opener. I didn't realize ROR was such an elite playmaker.

Why give up Z, a player doing his job who loves Phoenix, for ROR? Why would the Avs even want him at that price? Rundblad alone isn't enough value. We could get roughly the same production Yandle provides by bringing in ROR, except that now you have an elite 22 year old center. Offense from the blue line isn't the problem. You need guys that can bring the puck across the line and pass. Age and contracts aside, would you swap Yandle out for Zetterberg or Daystuk? Of course. Because this team desperately needs skill up front. When you factor in the budget and Yandle making $5+ mil on the back end, why not trade for ROR?

Yandle is arguably the piece floating out there that is available and the Avs want most. I really would not be surprised to see this happen. Avs would be sending more our way, though.

That's why I have posted that RO'R is one of the few players I wouldn't mind losing Yandle for. I also believe he would make the Coyotes one of the best teams down the middle complimenting Hanzal and Gordon as shut down centers. I see him as being able to reach his perceived potential level and maybe surpassing it. And more important. I believe he has what it takes to be a winner (screw stats).

I wonder if Maloney would be a bit sour on this whole idea because the affair with Wheeler, Mueller, and Turris. It kind of looks the same. However, I think he would be a great addition to our team and already has amazing leadership skills.

after reading the article rt posted, I am sure Maloney would be interested because he excelled defensively first so Tip would love him.

Word on the street is that the Avs soured the relationship. It's not really about money, although that plays a part. ROR simply wants to move on to another organization.

Kind of dumb on their part. They played him and he called their bluff. No chance of going back now I don't think.

If that article is true I'd happily trade Yandle for ROR.

Hanzal with offense? Yes, please.

We need an extra, talented young forward much more than we need an offensive d-man. If there's a trade there, I hope Maloney pulls the trigger.

Vermette, Summers and Yandle (9.8m)

for

O'Reilly, Barrie, Sgarbossa and a 1st (~6.4m)

Boedker - Hanzal - Vrbata
Sullivan - O'Reilly - Doan
Korpikoski - Sgarbossa - Moss
Torres - Chipchura - Johnson

(When healthy)
OEL - Rundblad/Z
Morris - Schlemko
Klesla - Barrie
Stone

I'd also like to fish Baertschi out of Calgary to replace Sullivan long term.

If we haven't at least kicked the tires on ROR and Eller, I'd be disappointed.

Unfortunately it sounds like Colorado is wisely only shopping ROR to Eastern Conference teams, so seems unlikely we will be able to land the dude.
