As knowledgable posters predicted this was a close game, very typical start for Russian team. And svk is no walk over either

I'm actually not sure it will. there will be games against the States and Canada and unless Russia wins those, they won't place first anyways

If Slovakia had won, and USA and Canada both dropped Russia...

Slovakia could have advanced as 3rd seed.

I don't think the gap between Grigorenko and Yakupov is that great. Interesting to see who is out with 15 seconds left in overtime, even though Yak is a winger.

On the other hand, if Canada looses to everybody else in the group, they will play in the relegation...

Can't believe we got a point from this game. A little disappointed we couldn't hold out to a shootout, but so be it. These aren't the games we need to be winning.

Russia have always done this, I remember last year many here were screaming how crap Russia is and Canada will destroy them after they had to grind out so many matches before the Semi Finals (OT QF Win less than 24 hours before SF, 3-1 against Slovakia etc etc). I actually think these close matches build players concentration and play under pressure. It seems that way based on Russia's performances in the last two WJC's. I have learned you can only judge Russia when they play fellow favorites.

Overall some positives to take out of this frustrating match. The big negatives are the puck hogging, but at times the passing was very slick and nice.

Russia were still clearly the superior team. Poor result yes, but i don't think anything i saw today suggests Russia lacks the talent to win this event.

Grigorenko/Kucherov are exceptional together. Nichuskin showed glimpses of what he can offer. Sigarev (correct spelling?) definitely impressed me.

Yakupov didn't do much, but again, you can see the obvious talent level there. People judge players on one game way too much (and teams).

I mean, i still think Russia has a better team than Sweden for example.

Yeah, I have no idea what Ferraro was talking about, although that man cannot call Russian, or even international games in general impartially.

And needless to say, but Grigo

The final result leaves a bad taste in my mouth about the first Russian offside goal, but whatever....nice job, boys, much better than I expected....Russians will get it together later on Im sure...the 1 point is unexpected and all nice, but most probably solves absolutely nothing for Slovakia considering the make-up of the group...

Embarassing result.

There is more talent on this year's Russia squad then in the last 2 years.

But the chemistry, dedication and will to win doesn't seem to be there.

Great game by Kucherov, Grigorenko, Khokhlachev and Vasilevski, other than that, horrendous.

I personally think Kuznetsov's impact at last year's WJC is very overrrated. IIRC he scored all his points in 2 games, only one being important. I still see him circling near the blue line while all the team battling for the puck with no score on the board.

Yakupov, Grigorenko, Kucherov, Nichushkin and all other players still have a chance to play big.

Slovaki really wins 2-1 if it wasn't for that clear offside non call

pretty rough start for russia

Lol at people putting Slovakia 9th in the tournament.

Nagy is also the backup by the way so very good for him today. Romancik should be in net for the Canada game

I don't really get fans who think that every game that isn't against Canada should be a blow out. For those who played hockey know that things are much more complicated, especially with the pressure of playing at home, which was clearly visible today.

This reminds me of last years WC, when Russia wasn't the offensive juggernaut at the beginning that it used to be and people were writing it off. When they had problems with Norway and so on.

Judging Russia by this game is like judging a book by it's cover.

It's not like Russia equalized it with 2 minutes to go.
