Mayor Michael Bloomberg admits to pushing Spurs’ Stephen Jackson

Quote:
It may be one of the more improbable confrontations in sports, but New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg conceded on Monday to shoving San Antonio Spurs swingman Stephen Jackson in the first quarter of the New York Knicks’ rout of the Spurs last week.

Speaking from the Bronx on Monday about the city school system, Bloomberg said that Jackson came too close to a waitress who had her back to the court while she was squatted in front of the Mayor to serve him a drink. According to David Seifman of The New York Post, Bloomberg dismissed the idea that Jackson tripped over the waitress:

“He didn’t fall on her. He came close and I just pushed him a little bit.”

Jackson ended up rolling his ankle after the fall but reports are that he’s fine, although he sat out the rest of the game as well as the one two nights later against the Philadelphia 76ers. He returned to action Monday night, logging 18 minutes in the loss to the New Orleans Hornets.

The incident prompted Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich to call it a “mayoral mishap” but said in all seriousness that it is his hope it will prompt the league to overhaul its concessions policies.

“It’s something that is a concern for all of us, obviously. It seems logical that while the play is going on you try to order a little less beer and when the plays stops, order whatever you want. While the play is going on, it would be nice to have all the lanes free.”

I hope Nets find a way to win a few more games before going out west again for a few games. Call me pessimistic but I pencil in Minnesota as a surefire loss. They never win at Target Center. I think the Pacer game will be tough but PJ has done so much better so far than I have ever hoped he could and the players are finally playing to their strengths!!!!

Before the season started I never thought the Lakers could miss the playoffs. I would have bet anything on them making it.

If they lose tonight, they'll probably have to win at least 30 of their remaining 47 games to make it. That might be tough because they really haven't shown any signs of getting better.

Spurs trying pretty hard to throw away this one, fortunate that Manu bailed them out with that 3.

Lakers showed a lot rallying back but close losses aren't good enough at this point.

I forget which poster it is, but the guy who is often posting about Artest shooting too much probably won't be too happy.

I posted about Artest shooting too much the other day and his play on that fast break was just stupid. A 3 on 1 with Kobe beside you and you take it yourself? Then he gets blocked by Duncan at the rim and follows that up with a missed three. A lot of poor three point attempts by other players as well.

Damn it, Butler with 2 huge offensive rebounds here in the last minute. Dallas put up a good fight.

My Rockets continue to confuse the **** out of me.

We scored 579 points combined in our last 5 games going 5-0, only to get held under 80 by a team with 9 wins. I wanna put a smiley here, but not sure which one is appropriate

He couldn't let Dikembe corner the throwback game market.

Philly players/staff were apparently mad that instead of winding down the clock at the end of the game, Calderon did an alley to Fields. I was actually surprised Calderon did that, but I'm guessing he did it to get Fields a double double for the night, and he's not going to get many of those, so whatever.

Sportsnet showed Calderon going to the Philly locker room and apologizing for doing it.

I've said it once, I'll say it a million times. Ron Artest is one of the most overhyped players of the past 20 years.

Knicks are really struggling. Chandler has been awful of late. I mean I have let it be known I can't stand him but most of that was from respect for being such a tough customer. This year, he's getting owned by everyone it seems. If you only look at the stats, it seems like he's been amazing but if you watch the games, you can tell how much he's fallen. I just wish the Nets and Knicks could play in a playoff series. I would love that! Pacers annoy the crap out of me. I can do without them.

That being said, I'm pretty happy the Kings have shown improvement of late. Hopefully they can keep it going. If they ever get back into the playoffs and are still in Sacramento, I would see them for sure! I haven't been back there in years.

Now the Knicks are getting in a rhythm. What an odd game. I really hope they can pull it out.

Knowing Calderon, not only can I picture him doing that, but doing so in the most sincere manner.

This Portland/Miami game has been better than I expected. Matthews with some huge shots here.

Chalmers gets the last shot, wide open, misses. Big win for the Blazers.
