Those quotes are from a Russian interview...

This is why i love WJC. Butthurt canadians

Your wjc team has been playing unfair and *****y in many tournaments now. Just look at the FRIENDLY game against sweden pre tournament.

I don't get this. Canada is tougher but no more "dirty" than other teams - especially the Russians and their stick work.

Anyway, I hope Yak keeps up the trash talk.

Exactly. I always find it sad that so many of my fellow Canadians somehow try to defend obviously dirty plays and players. Then again, judging by how the cheap shot experts who played in the Summit Series are worshiped here, I guess it's instilled in the national psyche to ignore the less than honourable aspects of the Canadian game.

That knee on knee just right now was absolutely filthy and I'm glad Germany scored on it.

As a Canadian I can agree with this. The Canadians always play the bully. I'd love for them to just use their skill and win games the classy way rather then playing dirty. Makes me want to cheer for the euro teams more.

That's what I took it as too. Didn't seem mean spirited to me when I read it.

Might have been though I don't know

Best part when the WJC come along. All the whining and crying from the Europeans about how "dirty" we play.

I remember when they wrecked Russia and Ovechkin in 2005. Hopefully they embarrass Russia in their own backyard this time.

He went for the hit and missed it, it was a penalty but I don't think he did it on purpose.

Am I the only one who wants Canada to "play dirty"? Canada always plays with an edge, and if that means an extra love tap or two, so be it. As long as they don't cross the line with a deliberate attempt to injure, it's all fine by me.

The video that has been circling around the thread was indeed a sucker punch that shouldn't be part of the game (and should have been called a penalty), but it looked a lot worse than it actually was.

Why are you putting emphasis on a pre-tournament game? Canada will treat pre-tourny games like they would a tournament game. Deal with it.

Meh, knowing Yakupov he probably said it as a shot rather than being dead serious. Canada should respond by stopping the stuff that Connolly did there and working on more psychological tactics. Then, when they win after having indulged the Russians into fighting back, put on some troll faces while handshaking them:

Then, instead of singing the national anthem afterwards:

P.S. That guy is a baus

A Canadian fan in the Jenner thread said that in Canada you are taught that if you aren't cheating you aren't trying. Now, I have no idea if that's true or not, but if that is the culture of Canadian youth hockey, you guys shouldn't be insulted when other players call you dirty.

I don't think that guy has any idea what he's talking about. Emphasis was put on work ethic. Not cheating.

I personally need clarification on this have no idea what the context of his comment was. Jenner didn't exactly "cheat," at least not in the traditional sense. If anything, he cheated himself. It was a late hit that he decided to commit to, which made no sense in the scheme of a practice game. I'm sure he wanted to dish some pain, but I do not think that his intent was to injury the poor guy. Same thing with the tiny spear last year: hardly cheating when you do it in front of the ref.

This isn't the same team as last year. And Boone Jenner is out(suspension should have been longer). Most of Canada is skilled this year. Not like the 2005 year. But still good. Russia is amazing too. No NHL makes this way more interesting. Some of this guys would be playing in the NHL now and would not b participating.
