Team Canada and Team Russia are probably the best rosters playing hockey in the world right now, so there's that. Those teams could compete in a professional hockey league, assuming there was one to play in, that's how good they are.

Our point (which you don't seem to be understanding) isn't that the hockey is bad, or that this tournament isn't worth watching (it is). The issue is with the massively disproportional fan worship for the tourney found in Canada, to the detriment of other, massively more prestigious international tournaments.

Canadians treat this and the Stanley Cup on almost equal grounds.

I'll tell you what should be important to Canadian sports fans: our men's national team making the World Cup of soccer, the Toronto Blue Jays bringing the World Series back across the border in a league dominated by big spending American clubs, Canada beating out Russia in the WHC (missing players and all). Sometimes I feel like these other things are completely forgotten in our fandom quest for WJC "glory" (when really, if we win gold, throw it on the pile...the pile exclusively seen and heard about by us).
This tournament to the majority of Canadians is akin to American's and March madness in basketball.

March madness is covered more than the NBA finals.

I'd also ask what other hockey tournaments are more prestigious for Canadians?

Certainly not the world championships, Canada doesn't send their best players to that tournament...so why not get on board for this?

Is hockey being played by skilled 16-19 year olds, who are playing only for he love of their country.

Anyone who says the hockey isn't high quality hasn't watched minnesota or new jersey in the last decade.

Change teenagers to adults and call the IOC. It's time to cancel the Olympics.

i don't think this is accurate

fwiw, the obsession in the US with March Madness and all the new years bowl games is quite bizarre to many Canadians.

different countries get excited by different sporting events. is it really that difficult to understand?

What? Peter Forsberg, Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic are legends in Denver.

You can do the same for all the college boosters who dump millions to watch teenagers play.

Ooh, you couldn't be more off base. I enjoy almost any hockey, was just curious as to why multitudes love this tourny as The Best Thing Ever! That's all.

The majority of Canadians DO NOT follow this tournament. So you making this ridiculous statement is condescending.

Besides myself and a couple of friends, I know of no one that follows this tournament. It's media driven just like March madness or even the Super Bowl.

Canada and Canadians have a lot to be proud of and a lot of reasons to hold our heads high. Rest assured, to most, how a bunch of teenagers do at a tournament is not one of them.

What did Woody Allen say...

Those who can... do; those who can't... teach; and those who can't teach... take sociology.

How would it be any different than a college following the final four or a city following a football team or a country counting the number of Olympic medals? It is all the same.

Name another hockey tournament, not named Olympics, that is as concise, exciting and entertaining... all packaged at a time when there is nothing else on.

How could someone NOT love the WJR's???

Why? They made something out of nothing. They make money for you/me as a shareholder of BCE. They provide entertainment for Canadians and hockey fans around the world.

You need to direct your hatred elsewhere, my friend.

So you're cheering against your (supposed) country's junior team because of a TV channel?

I think he wants to root against Canada and is using TSN as an excuse. Some advice... buy some BCE (@$42.78/share) and then enjoy both the TV coverage AND the 5.7% dividend yield, and root for the home team. You will be a happier/better person because of it.
