Jake McCabe is an interesting choice for captain.

Can I expect any points from McCabe?

I needed to take a D-man, and I kept reading that Rielly might get cut and that Murphy might be injured, so I ended up taking him.

Poor choice on my part?

Yeah... Taking McCabe over Reilly was definitely a mistake...

Maybe 1 or 2 out of pure chance. He's a good puck mover but he's not going to generate a lot of points. Reilly also isn't going to generate a large amount of points either, both are guys who get the puck out of their zones but aren't going to be quarterbacking powerplays or imitating Erik Karlsson.

Can't wait to see Trouba play.

Hopefully he can keep it together enough based on the officiating.

I know he can absolutely blow someone up.

Anyone able to confirm who the starter for Germany is? I'd assume Cupper?

If anyone is going to be imitating Erik Karlsson on the pp for the US it would be Rielly

Shayne Gostisbehere and Grzelcyk have better offensive point producing abilities than Reilly.

I'm going to be looking for 2 things in this game:

1) How Jacob Trouba looks on the world stage with IIHF calling.

2) How the US team stacks up to Canada against similar opponents. I can't take too much away from the game, though, as Germany played yesterday.

Was taking Grimaldi over Galchenyuk also a mistake?

there's not much they can fix IMO. the defense simply lacks talent. it's quite funny that a german team has a bad defense, but skilled forwards. it's probably the first time in my lifetime that germany might be better looking for a high-scoring game.

Yup. Quite different than the 0-5 forecheck, line up across your own blue line I've seen in some past tournaments.

Germany impressed me yesterday, they created a nice few chances, more than I was expecting. That may have been due to errors by the Canadian defence but still they were able to capitalize a couple time. I don't expect the Americans to score as often but this still won't be that close.

USA 7-3

So the US aren't going to name their 7th Defenceman prior to this game?

Looking forward to seeing how Pietila does. Seemed pretty good in one of those practice games
