Scott Wilson, Hockey East Rookie of the Year

Looks like a diamond in the rough for the Pens.

7th rounder last season, but leads all NCAA rookies in points per game (1.06) and tied for the lead in goals (16).

Anyone care to give their take on his style and/or NHL potential?

He's got the total package. Puck and playmaking skills are among the best in the NCAA, and he's very good in his own zone. Skating has improved greatly and he has a lethal shot. Big part of Lowell's success, and I'd peg his potential as a 2nd liner on a scoring line.

Thanks NUhockey, would be great if he could just make it to the NHL never mind on a scoring line. What would you say his weaknesses are? or areas to improve on?

Haha, I can't really say there's too many weaknesses with the guy in the small amount of time I've seen him. He's one of the best all around players I've seen in Hockey East, let alone freshmen. He's got speed and tenacity in the offensive end, and is excellent on the back check. If you had to nitpick, he won't turn on a dime like a Jeff Skinner, he's not a bruiser, and he can be a bit jerky with the puck sometimes. But his style suits him extremely well and Wilson has enough of the whole toolbox to more than make up for it.

Selected with the 28th pick (209th overall) in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft... Played two seasons for Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Professional Hockey League..

Sounds like we may have some eligibility issues here..

Beautiful. Thanks for the rundown...we don't get to hear many firsthand reports on the kid.

No way of knowing, he hasn't had as good a year statistically as last year but I think he'll play all 4 years of college so he's still 2 years away but probably more.
