Gibson should have been the player of the game for US. Russia did not have a lot of shots but had a high number of quality chances.

I'm confused as to why you keep bringing up skill as it relates to goalscoring in this game despite the fact that all three goals came off of lucky bounces.

I appreciate his effort, but he has tunnel vision and no shot.

He suffers from the Tyler Kennedy Syndrome where he just shoots the puck into the goalies logo like he's trying to burn a hole through it.

There were a couple of calls that they called on the US, but not Russia. There is no reason to blame the refs in this game though. US had their chances, but were bad passing the puck when they were so close to each other.

Also, I believe they need to change the Gaudreau-Grimaldi-Miller line. Miller should be playing on the third line. Grimaldi is skilled but he lacks vision so he doesn't do much even though he has the puck a lot. Gaudreau was just invisible, looked too easy to knock off the puck.
Lucia-Galchenyuk-Grimaldi
Gaudreau-Kuraly-Barber

Should be our top two lines. The coaching staff decided not to juggle lines however.

Good thing a big scoring forward like Kerdiles was left off the team

This Russian team is very fit, the Americans would have definitely been tired after playing such high pressure hockey in the first two periods.

Although Russia overall were outplayed (Not in the third period), they created enough chances to put 5 past the USA just as the USA did.

After the first two periods, I was somewhat worried but I like what I saw in the third period from Russia.

I’m very pleased with Russian defense and Makarov. Hopefully our forwards will start clicking against the Germans.

Game could have gone either way. Both teams played well. Will be interesting to see how they stack up against other teams.

I think it's safe to say that any team that plays without a goalie will lose.

I know everyone bangs on JT Miller. But Johnny Hockey has been the worst player in the top 6 for me, still cannot believe he missed that bunny to open the game. He is supposed to be an elite scorer, haven't seen much of the guy I have seen play at BC. Disappointed with him the most so far.

Because at least Miller wins the occasional board battle and draws, Gaudreau isn't scoring he doesn't bring much.

I wouldn't bet on that, Canada won't get that caliber of goaltending that USA has. Germany and Slovakia have shown that you don't need a finisher to rack up goals against Canada.

Is Makarov really better than Vasilevski? Vasilevski was golden at last years world juniors, he's bigger, he's drafted (1st round as well). Why does Makarov get the call? How does the russians think?

This. Miller has been wildly inconsistent. There has been shifts where he looks great and shifts where he looks terrible. But Gaudreau has been a ghost. Absolutely non-existent.

They wanted to see both before they played the Canadians

If he was really terrible he wouldnt be out killing penalties in the last minute. He wasnt the only Russian who was trying to do it all himself.
