There were 1310 in attendance at the Sweden-USA game which i think is quite good for a pre-tournament game. It's probably more then our u21 teams gets at their qualifying games.

Just turned on the U.S. vs. Sweden and there were maybe 80 people in the rink. And the games are in Sweden.

It really makes me wonder why the IIHF would hold a WJC in such a place. Not much income there....
Haha, who cares about exhibition games? Obviously not people who lives in Ängelholm which is 60 minutes drive away from Malmö. Lots of games in the 14k arena in Malmö have been sold out for a long time now.

Canadians do. If that game was in a Canadian rink, it would have been packed. Granted, there was still a lot made on TV rights because all of Canada was watching. 60 minutes drive - that's nothing. Please don't take this as a slight against Sweden, it's not. I was just surprised that the eventual gold medal winners were not better attended ( I mean Sweden of course )

Maybe people from Ängelholm have lost interest in hockey since their team are not really doing well (they're getting better though) and have dropped from playing in the highest league to the second.

It have always been like this, people rather stay at home and watch the game on tv instead. We didn't even have full house at WC in Stockholm with Sedins and other NHLers on the ice. Lazy Swedes who just go to the arena when our team is doing really well.

We barely get news that a pre-tournament is played. I for one has 0 interest in watching games like that.

Attendance discussions often seems to be sidetracked by unreal expectations.
A pre-tourney for the World Junior Championship in hockey...I don't think you can expect a full house for this anywhere in the world, outside of Canada.
Keep in mind that the home town heroes in Ängelholm (Rögle BK) has an average attendance of 2920 this season.
And this is a town that's often considered a hotbed for hockey in the southern parts of Sweden...
But then again, take a look at the Toronto Marlies in the AHL.
Toronto is indubitably one of the biggest hotbeds for hockey in the whole world, and with a population of 2.8 million people, the Ricoh Coliseum should expect sellouts at a regular basis right..?!
Wrong...
Even in hockey crazed places there are limitations to what draws the masses.
So should the WJC only be played in places where the rinks are packed at every game and the income can be maximized?
Well you could try that, but it also would mean you'd be decreasing the interest for it anywhere else.
Sure there's still tv-broadcasts, but we all know that no tv-broadcast will ever be the same as watching games live.
I don't think the IIHF care more about maximizing the profits than actually spreading the word of hockey.
Btw just ten years ago the interest for the WJC in Sweden was helluva less than it is today...

Ahhhh I'm getting so hyped for this, secured my gold medal tickets a while back (stick tap to SteffeG for the help) but secured semi finals and CAN vs USA a couple days ago, and even though I've been traveling for over a month I just can't effing wait for this

With that said tourney attendees don't be afraid to post NYE plans, our clan will be looking for something to do!!!

Need help from the locals (Malmo/Copenhagen).

I had my phone unlocked before leaving and was under the impression that finding a prepaid SIM card would be a piece of cake.

After walking around the hotel area in Copenhagen (Radisson near Tivoli gardens), we found the tech stores quite useless...they keep sending us to 7-11's, and 7-11 clerks are most unhelpful.

I need a local SIM card that would allow me to text to Canada. That's it. Where should I be looking for these darned things? Should I be looking for a certain type of SIM card?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You can buy a SIM card pretty much everywhere and load it with 50-100 SEK

If you're talking straight SMS texts to Canada that might be tough to find with prepaid but if you're talking about texting through iMessage or what's app (aka via internet/data) then look for 3 mobile, they have something called Feel at Home that will allow the data to transfer from Denmark to Sweden (as well as other countries in EU and abroad) and should be unlimited.

I got one in the UK for 15£ and it's awesome, I'm currently using it in Italy and it will have the same functionality when I head up to the north.

Hope that helps

I think we already discussed this some, but there's a lot of bars around Lilla Torg (Small Square) and Gustaf Adolfs Torg that are going to be taken by the hockey fans. For pubs around the arena I have no idea, but there should be one in the fan zone (Malmö Isstadion) and one at Malmö Arena. See you there!

Very close to Isstadion. It's in the new big soccer stadium (the black one) Swedbank Stadion. Several other pubs/bars close to Malmö Isstadion could be found around Möllevångstorget (a big lively square). It's just one or two blocks away to the east from the south entrance of Triangelen Station. The prices are also better there than at Lilla Torg.

At Malmö Arena there is obviously the bar inside the arena. But more pubs/bars could be found inside the Emporia shopping complex, just beside the arena. A easy way is to just sit at a bar and drink in the centre of Malmo and when you're feeling ready to go, just hop onto the train who takes you straight to the entrance of the Malmo Arena where you roll off...

If your planning to visit the games at Malmo Isstadion it's not a "deadly walk" between the Triangelen Station (south entrance) and Isstadion. If you're young and healthy (like me) you can just walk 10-15 minutes, through the park, to the arena. The distances in Malmo are not that extreme at all. It's a "walkable" city for sure. But Malmo Arena is probably best accessed via train.

Does anyone have any information on the Canada - Switzerland exhibition today? We are interested but I can't seem to find the details of the Arena it is in. Trelleborg or Angelborg? If I can eve get that I assume the hotel concierge or Google maps can get us pointed in the right direction but any extra help from the helpful people here would be appreciated. We are coming from Copenhagen Lufthavn BTW.

The game is played at Söderslättshallen, Trelleborg at 18.00 local time. Quite far fom Copenhagen and Malmö unfortunally.

Not that far, less then 1 hour with car. Should go trains there with 10-20ish minutes travel time.

Finally got my power back on after icestorm. Imagine my shock to find out Team Canada went down 3-0 to the Swedes. Anyway, I hope things drastically improve by time my flight arrives. Come on boys I already witnessed the dismal. Then Performance in Buffalo (still trying to erase that game from my memory). See everyone in Malmo in just a few days. Maybe I should bring more liquor. GO CANADA GO.

One tip; If you are planning to use cabs, do not go with any of the small or "private" companies. In my hometown Göteborg, the small companies always try to rip you off. I guess they got the same problem in Malmö.

Cab drivers can be such d-bags sometimes. I would almost rather rent a car instead if I were going overseas.
