I simply adore the fact that the picture of the arena on the game threads is at least 20-25 years old - empty and clean streets, a handful of Soviet-built cars in front of the arena, etc.

Here's a somewhat more recent photo for the mod (although it was taken before all the repairs were completed)

Thanks. What I'd really like, though, is a projected lineup for Switzerland.

Rafik posted the lines from the first friendly game.

I'd guess:

Boltshauser

Hächler - Kukan
Marti - Guerra
Antoinetti - Müller
Baltisberger

Offence is really difficult to predict:

Lino Martschini - Tanner Richard - Sven Andrighetto
Sandro Zangger - Christoph Bertschy - Robin Leone
Alessio Bertaggia - Lukas Balmelli - Dario Simion
Lukas Sieber - Jan Neuenschwander - Mike Künzle
Martin Ness

Haven't seen either of these teams yet and they seem to both be on a bit of a down year. Do the Swiss play the trademark defensive style that has made them so successful in this tournament lately? Are we expecting a high or low scoring game? Any chance Latvia can pull off a W?

Latvia has played Swiss three times at WJC, lost all three of them.

2012 - 3:5 (Goals by returnees: Andersons, Jevpalovs - 2 x Bertschy, Marti)
2010 - 5:7
2006 - 2:5

We are most certainly expecting a high scoring game, as Latvia's defense is anything but decent, and I'm afraid it might cost us a place at WJC for 2014. Merzlikins is great in net, and hopefully that can help us.

Still, Latvia has a shot of pulling off a W, the main question is - can Latvian forwards score more than our defense lets in.

Could be an entertaining game as neither team is much better than the other. The HF article posted by Rafik Soliman worded it nicely: Switzerland has intensity, but lacks star power. Unless Latvia has a big defense some of our small but fast forwards (Bertaggia, Andrighetto, Bertschy) might cause damage. And even if there is no star defender the Swiss defense is said to be one of the stronger collectives in years.

Unless a completely different Latvian team shows up, unfortunately, this will end in a bitter disappointment for us. That said utmost respect to Swiss, they are no Finns, it will be easier for our more capable players to win/luck out some individual battles, so if we manage to stay out of the box (unlikely) and manage to not concede in first minutes of the game (hard to see that) , this has potential to be a close affair (of course, it won't).

http://onhockey.ru/ will have a stream, they did for the Latvia Vs Finland game when basically no one had any stream.

Really looking forward to this game, Switzerland although always troubles the bigger nations never seems to dominate the teams closer to their level.

Relegation Hockey Should be a cracker.

Winner here has a chance to upset for a QF spot later. I'd put my money on the Swiss.

I dont see how swiss are all that more skilled than us,should be a close game.Yeah i mean they have better defensemen, but IMO our offense is better.

The Swiss have been doing better against the Canadians for a while now, that's what matters here. Mrazek is suddenly a huge prospect when he has a good game against the Canadians etc

Yeah, but Swiss, you know, could have an actual gameplan (like they usually have), discipline or something crazy like that. They are not a retarded hockey nation like we are and that hugely tilts this tie in their favour. In no way, shape or form we should consider us equal to Switzerland at this point, and it's not fault of Tambijevs only.

On the other hand,it looks like from the player interviews this is our MAIN game, most important one so who knows, maybe Tambijevs has something up his sleeve. And calling us a retarded hockey nation, really dude?

It`s possible that we saved our energy against the Finns,to use it against Swiss. As alot of our players said this is the most important game.

Any reason Girgensons isn't there? Haven't really followed him, injured or something?

That's only my opinion, chill.

Still I base this theory on the way our players play the game, how the coaches coach our teams, how the fans, just like media, really have no clue what goes on the ice. I've been posting/lurking in hockey forums for couple of years now and I envy, just envy how insightful and logical thinking people are here people on NHL team GD threads (not the main troll board obviously). Just open any of SC.com discussions, each next comment is more retarded than previous. Just listen to the interviews of, say Miļūns or Tambijevs of their vision of the team, it's like they not even see how their players are actually playing or what are their trumps, I really have no idea how any of them pick their rosters. Just compare them to the Ted Nolan, remember how fantastic looking was our team before wheels fell of against the Norway (still not sure what happened till now). Those were the same mediocre players as in the past 10 years, but see what actual, hockey understanding, coach can do.

Enough off-topic. Bring on the cheese!
