I know some fans are eager to get rid of Ward, but this would likely be a terrible deal in the long run for the Caps.

While i DO want to get rid of Ward at all costs, i think this is actually a good deal, we need someone to replace Semin.. Althought this deal has a bit of a risk element since we dont know how well Ribeiro works for Caps, if he does fit well we don't need anymore centers.

No way you guys get rid of Forsberg. You guys got lucky he fell all the way to the Caps since teams were in demand of defence.

Not a horrible deal but we aren't we aren't losing Purcell for Ward. It'd be harder to say no adding Forsberg, but given that the Lightning need to make a run before St Louis and Lecavalier run out of steam, I'd say no.

Plus, I love Purcell and hate the Caps.

If the Caps want to get rid of Ward as much as you apparently do and can't get any takers for him without adding big pieces to a deal, they should just ride this year out buy him out in the summer. They could even work out a deal where they keep part of his salary/cap hit if that is the biggest stumbling block.

Plus, I don't think he was given a fair shake last year. He was 5th on the team in playoff points, despite getting less than 11 minutes per game. At the very least I'd give him 3rd line minutes this season and more ice time in the playoffs (if they make it) and see how he does.

Should have just kept Semin then, who alone would be better than Purcell.

Semin, Ward, Forsberg/1st >>>>>> Purcell

If Forsberg or the 1st are involved it need to be Ryan or a long term partner for Green.

You realize that was a two-way street, no?

All signs point to Semin wanting to remain in Washington, but McPhee giving him the cold shoulder.

Why has Ward fell out of favor with Washington Fans? I thought he was a solid performer for you guys in the playoffs. Also i guess i don't watch Tampa enough because is Purcell really worth Ward and a first or Forsberg?

All it would have taken was a respectable offer. Guy loved Washington more than Doan loves Phoenix.

But we decided to blame all our playoff failures on him and go in a different, gritty playoff warrior direction with Ribeiro, Wolski and Hillen.

He's paid 3 million and doesn't produce in the regular season. For some reason most of my fellow fans are star struck by regular season points. In the playoffs when used right he can put up insane possession stats and completely throw the other team off.

Purcell is worth nowhere near that.

Yeah i thought it was odd. I place Tampa in the same boat as my habs where if either team gets hit with a few injuries, will slide down the standings pretty fast. There are probalbly 15-20 teams in that boat. First round picks from such teams could easily be a Seth Jones or a Nathan Mackinnon, now that the bottom 14 get a shot at first overall. That would go down as a bad trade in history if that happened. I'm with you that I put little emphasis on regular season stats.

imo Purcell's point totals get overrated because he plays with Stamkos and St.Louis.

The caps aren't trying to get rid of Ward as much as this thread suggests because obviously we got him to be a playoff performer, and that's what he is. He is a great player to have on our 3rd line.

The Forsberg/1st is just flat out dumb because we could get a much better player than Purcell for that price. And besides he isn't even much of an upgrade over Brouwer.

Forsberg's name should be nowhere near this thread.
Ward, 1st I'd do in a heartbeat.

We got Brouwer for a 1st and that was a solid trade. Our first isn't top-10, I guarantee it.
He's dufferent than Brouwer: creative, pass-first RW. Kinda like Hemsky, but better.

Forsberg was a potential top 5, don't move him yet.

Not with Wards contract. I'd have to pass.

He splits a lot of time actually. Brouwer is a bad comparison for him, too. Hes nothing like him at all.
