Montreal could have Mcdonagh AND Subban AND have never had the albatross Gomez around their necks if only a gm hadn't made a trade. That's gotta hurt. If I were a habs fan that'd be a stone in my shoe.
I really REALLY like Faulk. But it's hard to bet against Subban. I think the kid is dynamite. Easy guy to hate if you're a fan of the other team, but there's no denying his talent.
I'm the opposite of an Oilers fan but have you been following the AHL?
i am an Oiler fan but still think comparing Schultz to established NHLers is premature.
So the guy plays like the 4th forward on ice and can run a PP ... that is great but he has ways to go before he established himself as a legit elite Dman in NHL..
his upside IMO is A.Pieterangelo and he should be at least as good as Fowler\Gardiner. But until he gets a couple 30 pt seasons under his belt these polls should not be around.
Put all 3 guys in a hat, it's really too early to tell each has their strengths and weaknesses.
People need to remember that Folwer is 2 years younger than Schultz and has been a huge minute Dman in the NHL for the last 2 years.
Subban ia 1 year older than Schultz but has had a pretty decent start to his career and has an amazing skillset and good size, if he plays more evenly could be the ebst of this group.
McDonagh doesn't bring enough offense and his success is very system based and he is in the bottom 2 as far as overall skill/player I would want.
Falk had a good rookie season and might be poised to take the biggest jump when we resume hockey with a revamped Canes team.
we all know what Schultz is doing offensively in the AHL but he is the smallest of these 5 guys, by quite a bit, and it remains to be seen how he adapts defensivley to larger and better players.
He will probably be the best guy in fantasy terms for the next 5 years with Edmonton's nucleus but not so sure about his overall game, if it's enough to put him ahead of Subban and Fowler or even Faulk for the future..
Based on previous omments, I don't think he watches the East much.
Anyone who watches a reasonable number of games knows McDonagh is a force offensively and an absolute machine defensively.
One of my favourite defenseman in the game.
I don't watch him every game but have seen enough to know that this is fan hype, no scouting service even comes close to calling him "a force offensively."
It's the inverse of Sen fans calling Karlsson a PK force.
He is a blocked shots force, which stems in part from the system the Rangers use in which they collapse and block.
All 4 other guys in this poll have a much better offensive skill set thus more than 2 PPA last season.

Ryan McDonagh was 7th in the league amongst defenseman in ES points (30) and 4 behind the #2 guy. He was tied for 8th with Shea Weber in ES goals.
If you want to blame him for getting 0:37 of PP time a game then go ahead, but he is one of the better defenseman in the league offensively.
The reason he doesn't play the PP is the same reason Karlsson doesn't play the PK. It's not because they aren't great at it, it's just that they are better used in other situations.
But of course, if you don't understand that by now, you're probably one of the people who will fight tooth and nail against logic.

he has a good shot yes.
He plays a ton of minutes and is a decent passer yes.
He got 2 assists on the PP all season because only elite offensive Dmen play big PP minutes.
This ES crap is getting ridiclous IMO, if you are going to use that at least do the production on a per minute basis to make it an objective playing field would you.
But no you won't do that because it's a pick and choose thing with stuff like this McDonagh is hands down the bottom player here in terms of offensive skill period.
He has 4 assists in 25 playoff games where he plays 26:01 MPG
