Solid poll.

Can't go wrong with any, but Carlson would be my choice.

If I see one more McDonagh poll I'm trading him to Detroit

I feel like McDonagh is the best of Carlson and Hamonic combined, so it's like, pretty easy here.

Saying McDonagh is better than Carlson and Hamonic is crazy talk.
McDonagh has had one really good season and I would say him and Carlson are pretty even followed by Hamonic not far behind.

Hamonic + Carlson > McDonagh

McDonagh possesses alot of Carlson's skills and he also possesses alot of Hamonic's skills.

That doesn't necessarily mean I'd rather have McDonagh than both of them. That's not what I was saying.

How many good seasons did Carlson have? One, unless you want to consider that -15 a good season, but I guess that's up for debate.

Also, McDonagh's season has been better than every one of Carlson's seasons.

If you're asking if the past 2 seasons, which were the his first seasons in the NHL despite 22 games, were good in which he was put into the team's top line in a shutdown role going against the other teams top lines every night for two years straight while dealing with a team that was playing below average and having major coaching and leadership issues filled with injuries while still managing to score 37 and 32 points on the blue line alongside the offensive phenom that is Karl Alzner than I say YES.

ALSO, John Carlson's 2010-2011 season was better than both of Ryan McDonagh's seasons.

ALSO, John Carlson's 2010-2011 season was better than both of Ryan McDonagh's seasons.
McDonagh only had 40 NHL games under his belt before 11-12 being his first full season. He split the 10-11 season almost 50/50 between the AHL and NHL.

How do you figure that? Comparing last season only, Carlson was a -15, McDonagh a +25. Both had 32 points, with Carlson scoring 2 more goals and McDonagh getting 2 more assists. McDonagh averaged about 3 more minutes per game than Carlson and McDonagh spent about half of his first full NHL season on the first pair.

Let's compare Carlson's "best" 10-11 season to McDonagh's "best" (and only full) season in 11-12.

Carlson was a +21, McDonagh a +25 - more or less a wash.
Carlson was 7-30-37 in 82 GP, McDonagh a 7-25-32 in 82 GP - again, pretty much a wash.
McDonagh averaged more ice time - even strength (~21m) and penalty kill (~3m) - per game than Carlson (~18m ES, ~2m PK).
McDonagh had more hits and blocked shots, and less missed shots and give aways.
Both had 44 PIM.
Carlson outshot McDonagh 144-123.

Not to mention McDonagh was receiving league-wide praise from just about everyone for his steady play while having to cover for the mistakes of Girardi; I'm not trying to say Carlson wasn't solid because I've watched about half a dozen Caps games throughout last season (plus Caps-Rangers playoff hockey) and Carlson is definitely a noticeable player, but McDonagh really shined through and stood out last season.

It's still a wash no matter how much New York fans praised his season but you take your homer vote and I will take mine.

If we using +/- as a way to rate players(which I think has many flaws since alot of time it's a product of the team or system or checking assignments you on) Hamonic was +6 on a team full of negatives(some as high as -30). The only other regular(40+ games) who had a plus rating was Moulson at +1
