Even a freebies won't help much anyway. Short of strapping Garry to a chair on centre ice and letting all fans willing take a crap on him I don't see them winning me back soon.

Do so and all we ask for is a hug. Frankly, I'd insist on giving them one.
Montreal would probably have to give them something (a pick?) to bump it along.

There are alot of fans that feel differently, but recovering from this lockout is not going to be as easy as the last one...looks good on both sides...put Fehr in the chair beside Bettman...

Thats fine... but I know myself, and MANY others on this board will be back the moment they drop the puck.

I'm really getting irritated with how long this negotiation is taking. You know they are very close, but the last few details are holding this up.

As per LeBrun on the Team 1040..

Free NHL Center Ice is not a viable option for the NHL due to drawing away from regional broadcasts.

Would have to be another form of fan give-back.

...

So chewing on that... a more realistic 'gifts' may be
- a discount for Center Ice
- An extended free preview
- discount for previous purchasers of CI
- Maybe free online gamecenter (or extended free preview or discounted)

It takes time to read through hundreds of pages of legal documents.

This may be a dumb question, but does watching a game on CI not count towards the ratings for that particular game?

I believe the bottom eight teams would play while the others would sit and watch, a la MLB. Once they whittle it down to four survivors, a sixteen-team playoff would start under the current format.

Here's my list of realistic "gifts" from the NHL to fans:
- Nothing
- A middle finger
- A ticket price hike

Also "thank you fans!" painted in the ice. Don't forget about that.

This actually made me laugh. They would do something stupid like that. I remember when the Canucks had that stupid ass 7th man fan appreciation thing going. They had to stop doing it when people started to boo it and laugh at it.

they shouldn't do anything in terms of apologies. It would be insulting to most people at this point, IMO. Maybe I'm just speaking for myself. I'd rather continue like nothing ever happened, just a discounted center ice, which won't happen--Makes too much sense, and involves cutting money away from them.

I'm sure the NHLPA would not be happy as that affects their share...

An arbitrary "teams are on the hook for cap hits if a player with a retirement contract retires" is precisely what a punishment is. Now if they simply say teams cannot bury contracts over x amount then it's a change.
