He's the best WHL forward I've ever seen. I get to see him quite often and I covet him. #1 line, powerforward potential. He can score and he can set up a play. He can throw the big check or make a good defensive play. He's the total package. Needs a bit more work on his skating (but it's not a weakness) and needs to be a bit more consistent but I think the kid has star NHL potential.
I agree. Getzlaf doesn't get enough credit. He is an unbelievable all around package. When he hits his full stride in the NHL, watch out. This kid will do it all.

Yeah, i don't really like the Ducks much, but they found themselves a keeper with this pick. He can already do everything, and continues to improve every year!

Ok for starters, I say I respect you're opinion. Living in Calgary, you obviously get to watch him more then I do in Lethbridge.

But here are some "prospects" i'd like to have ahead of him, in no order.

Ovechkin, Lehtonen, Malkin, Phanuef, Fluery, Vanek, Parise, Semin, Kostitsyn, Carter, Barker

I just read my copy and I was suprised a few prospects weren't included in their teams top 10s:

Anaheim - Mark Popovic (he's having a good yr with Cincy)
Carolina - Brad Fast ( he's having a crappy year yes, but he's still 10 top on the canes isn't he?)
Los Angeles - Petr Kanko ( has he fallen out of the Kings' top 10 already?)
NY Islanders - Wes O'Neill (having huge yr w/ Notre Dame - even though they suck)
Washington - Mike Green ( i know wsh's loaded with good prospects, but take a look at what he's doing in the WHL this year, i think he's going to be a VERY solid 3-4 D man for years to come....he's got a mean streak )

Anyone agree? Disagree?

Top 10

Phaneuf over Lehtonen

I love Phaneuf but franchise goaltenders are very hard to come by
And both should be in the Thrashers' organization.

Not in the eyes of the King's organization. Kanko has slipped in the rankings in a little but only because of very strong drafts the last 2 years. Petr is progressing as the organization expected.

The only prospects that are CLEARLY above Getzlaf are Ovechkin, Lehtonen, Malkin, Fleury and Phaneuf. The other prospects are all "individual judgements".

If a team wants a budding power forward, Getzlaf is the best pick.

Very puzzling.
The Leafs in general were a complete **** up in this year's prospect watch.

It's great to see Zach Parise getting some (as the cool kids say) dap. He's listed 7th according to the Sportsnet article that was linked earlier.

Does anyone have the NJ Devils list? I have yet to recieve my copy of THN in the mail.

Looks like THN turned Future Watch into a pure WJCs suck-off.

I was surprised Igor Mirnov wasn't in their top 10 for Ottawa. He's had another productive year in the Russian Super League with over 10 goals and 20 points.

You're right, but there is another meaning to "dap" that makes this sentence hillarious.

I was surprised to only see the Rangers move from a C grade to a C+ given the enormous amount of players they added to their system, however... I then realized that they have not a single prospect in their top 10 at their AHL affiliate. To me, that means that the talent may be there, but the development is not. The teams ranked ahead of them might have less talent, but a lot more players closer to the NHL.

How exactly is that? Just because Atlanta took Coburn over Phaneuf? At the time of the draft Coburn was clearly rated above Phaneuf. Aside from Sutter, there probably weren't many GMs who would have take Phaneuf ahead. It's pretty easy to say that now that you have seen them for a few seasons. I don't know what you're complaining about, Coburn is gonna be one good dman.

Just like the Rangers turned last year's draft into one.

That makes sense... because Montoya and Korpikoski weren't rated just about exactly where they were taken by most sources...

This list means really nothing...THN rated Mika Noronen as the #1 rated prospect a few years back I believe.

I kinda doubt that. They did rate Ryan Miller #1 though... but who knows. Sometimes top-rated prospects don't pan out as expected... usually they'll fall on the rankings over the course of a few years (see Pihlman of the Devils). Others rise.

But obviously many of these guys are so close together that top-rated news outlets can easily rate them differently. 4 guys in the HF Rangers Top Ten weren't in THNs while 1 THN Top Ten didn't even get the HF Top 20.
