So will there still be a penalty to teams that circumvented the cap?

From what I gathered so far in the talks, teams will be forced to abide by the hard cap by year two.

What the compliance buyouts mean are another story and could greatly benefit the Leafs (Komisarek).

I wish they let you 'bank' those buyouts lol

P.S The leafs record against eastern teams was terrible last year(lol) We didn't beat the Panthers, Bruins or Flyers once all of last year...lets change that

bad news is, we probably wont be seeing any more star players or big trades anytime soon either.

Ya I also wonder if they stayed with two buyouts?

Real hockey trades are a thing of the past.

more so now. alot of these teams with high paid stars are going to have to get creative to build decent teams if the cap stays low after next year. drafting will become even more important than ever. its probably best that the leafs end up at the bottom right now. and i think alot of teams will be thinking the same thing.

Draft lottery will change. All 14 teams fully eligible for 1st pick overall. Weighting system may remain, but 4-move restriction out.

Don't be so sure as a high pick. Trust me you don't know how a well defensive team can make strides with the right moves added in. Burke is a smart one, he definitely has some moves up his sleeve.

Regardless I am happy there is hockey.

He did say there were going to be drastic changes but he wanted to wait on the CBA.

We don't have a "defensive team" so no need to worry about that.

But all teams basically have "equal" odds behind closed doors?

This is horse ****.

All of a sudden, 1st round picks have been arbitrarily degraded in value.

We should have traded two first round picks for Kessel NOW with THIS CBA!!!!!!

So frustrating.

I think it means that the % would still be the same to win the lottery. Meaning instead of only moving up 4 spots max, you jump to first. They'll still be long shots to get the 1st overall pick IMHO.

not necessarily. could mean they are more valuable and you might see more swapping etc during the draft. but imo they should of just went back to the way it was, wherever you land in the standings is where you pick. seems the most logical to me.

If the NHL is just doing the whole process behind closed doors, what does it matter in the end?

All this is doing is degrading the supposed "chances" of the lowest placed teams from landing the best prospects and basically giving the NHL free reign to assign prospects to franchises of its choosing (for ulterior purposes).

we will have to find out more about the process i guess and see how it works, i want to know as well if they changed free agency as well like was rumored.

shortened contract lengths and variability you can be sure.

Doesn't exactly benefit the Leafs.

yeah they said they agreed on 7-8 years, 8 if your own prospect.7 for free agents. but i meant the process of free agency, when it happens and how long etc. they were talking like they would take a 2 week period for free agents to meet teams etc and werent aloud to sign untill the 2 weeks were up. I was just curious how serious that talk was.

ELC's , RFA, and UFA dates....ergo.

Sounds like the division of revenue and pensions were settled tonight.

What satisfies me most about this agreement is at least another 8-10 years before another potential work stoppage.

Hockey fans can look forward to, for the first time, an uninterrupted economic model that 30 teams can use for the next 8-10 years.

The picks we gave up in the kessel trade would have been worth more under these rules, not less.
