I would say the area around Hershey probably has quite a lot more people than winnipeg area does. York, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Reading combined are probably significantly more than Quebec City as well. Why no team in Hershey?
Because I don't think Hershey fans would be willing to pay the second highest ticket price in the league to offset their low population. I might be wrong but I am sure that winnepeg was willing.

Markets are not about exclusively about fans, they are about revenues and market penetration. If you live in NYC, if 1/1000 people are fans, you can make a go, in winnepeg 1/1000 fans doesn't keep the lights on. 1/100 makes you break even, 1/100 willing to pay higher than average ticket prices puts you top 10 in revenue even though you are 30th in population.

If you think people in Hershey are willing to pay more than have fans for a team, and will do this long term then I can see a case being made for Hershey. Right now( and I could be wrong) I'm not convinced.

I wouldn't be anti-Baltimore, but I just don't think there's anything to gain there, when other markets are under-served.

Do you have some proof of this or is it just your opinion? [Mod]... how many NHL games have you actually attended yourself? You think the NHL is just going to drop a new team in Baltimore because a few people go and watch Caps games? Don`t be sorry just present something to prove your fact.

If somewhere doesn't work twice. It's really not worth trying a third time.

Houston is the 4th-most populous city in the U.S. I don't know why they don't have a team already. The Pacific Northwest should get a shot, too.

I wouldn't be opposed if 2 new markets got a team (read: relocation/expansion), if they both went to the Northwest. Houston confuses me though because there is a hockey history, but don't have an owner.

Forget about city sizes. Phoenix is a growing city and 6th biggest in the U.S. How has that helped the Coyotees?

There needs to be interest in hockey or it won't work.

Winnipeg is a small market, yet in can bring in much more revenue than huge cities in the U.S.

There should be.

Is the NHl suppose to have 34 teams. Seriously? That's ridiculous.

But they have the same benefits as Houston, tons of people who don't give a crap about hockey, except on an even bigger scale. Its literally win win.

Patience my friend, patience. There's clearly one for now, in three or four years who knows?

I think it would be devastating to the NHL product to add 4 crappy teams so quickly. They will be horrible teams, they will have no talent, play boring hockey and people will have to pay to watch them play their teams. It would be disgusting.

The Leafs are fantastic for the NHL.

32 is fine. Move the Coyotes to Seattle, put an expansion team in Quebec City and another in Hamilton. Markham is SOL.

Its like clarences wings, every time someone lambastes the leafs for being bad on the ice, mlse makes 10 grand.

And to get it back on track, none of the four teams you mentioned NEEDS expansion. Once the arenas are built, the jeopardy theme music starts. Expansion is fine by them

The Leafs do not play boring hockey. Sorry. They are far from boring. They played exciting run n' gun hockey last season.

They haven't played a "Boring" style since the Pat Burns years.

I doubt that condition would last. More important question: is it better to get a relocated franchise (like Phoenix or Columbus) or an expansion one?

Except.....no matter how much fairy dust you smoke, the Blue Jackets are going nowhere. The Lightning are going nowhere. The Panthers are going nowhere. The Stars are going nowhere. The Hurricanes are going nowhere. It's just that simple.
