Worst movie of 2012?

Straightforward question: in your opinion, what was the worst new movie that you saw in 2012?

Tie between Red Dawn and the new Twilight. Both made no sense and had zero redeeming qualities.

Prometheus. Maybe not exactly the worst considering the kind of movies that come out each year, but it was a big pile of ****.

Hmmm, interesting question. I saw a few movies this year that I really did not like. I'd put them in different categories.

Legitimate Worst

The Apparition: I knew it was going to be horrible, and a friend asked if I wanted to see a movie. We had both seen things like The Avengers and The Hunger Games, and I had just seen Moonrise Kingdom and Magic Mike the day before, so we settled on just going to have fun at the expense of a movie that was getting a 2% on Rotten Tomatoes, knowing we could get free passes from our friend, who manages a theater. It was a disaster of a film, and undoubtedly the poorest excuse for one that I saw this year, but I had a great time in an empty theater with my friend, as we were astonished by the insanity we were witness to.

Least Favorite

Silent House: American remakes of foreign horror films are rarely good, especially when the foreign horror film it is remaking wasn't very good in the first place. Both the original and the remake seem based entirely on the idea of trying to make a movie look like one shot, but that is an exercise that proves distracting and annoying, as did everything else in the film. The story has been done a million times, and Elizabeth Olsen, who was so great in Martha Marcy May Marlene was absolutely wasted in the lead role. Really frustrating stuff.

Biggest Disappointment

Prometheus: I know people are rather split on this film, but I fall pretty hard into the negative side. I saw the movie at its midnight release, and was just miserable. I will say that I did get one thing out of Prometheus, and that's an example of how a movie doesn't have to be B&W and foreign to be pretentious, it can be a blockbuster sci-fi film. Prometheus just failed for me on nearly every level.

Am I Crazy?

The Raid: Redemption: This is the film that's reception from critics and average filmgoers has left me dumbstruck. I sat in a theater for 100 minutes, and got not one minute of joy. I couldn't imagine putting myself through it again.

Was expecting a poll. Overall 2012 was one of the better years but come on Battleship? Really? Awful.

Hitchcock--Totally pointless, utterly misguided exercise in tedium

HMs:

Men in Black III--a cash grab, nothing more
Iron Sky--but too easy to pick on
Prometheus--flaccid
Cloud Atlas--vapid
Savages--perhaps should be the winner, but too watchable to hate completely
Les Miserables--not the worst movie of the year, but the biggest disappointment

I've fortunately missed most of the obviously horrible movies, but my bottom 5 right now are

Dangerous Liaisons
Motorway
This Means War
Les Miserables
Wreck it Ralph

Battleship, Resident Evil: Retribution, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

They were all terrible. The worst is between RE and GR. Didn't watch all the way through any of them.

Cloud atlas. 3 hours of complete nonsense. A movie that was made simply to say "hey we can make this book into a movie just to say we did it"

Awards:
The Avengers
I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to specifics in a movie regarding super heroes, so when I saw Sam Jackson as Nick Fury, I kind of raged. Okay, alternate universe Ultimate Nick Fury was black, but still. The movie was lackluster. Everything felt sort of dragged through up until the final 20 minutes and then the action just came, was abrasive and ended in a big kaboom. For all the hype it got, I was disappointed.

I did walk out wanting to see the Captain America and Thor features though. I also bought schwarma that night as well.

Savages was terrible, I couldn't believe I watched it all..Kitsch has really become the go to actor for making a horrible movie.

When it comes to Cloud Atlas I have fond memories of the book so I doubt I'll even watch the movie. From what I've heard they don't even try to explain what the Cloud Atlas is.. and in the book there is a description like Souls are like clouds across the sky and the only way you can map where things are is with the Cloud Atlas. (which is much more explicit in the book)

No, you ain't crazy. The Raid: Redemption is the worst movie I've seen this year. I'm dumbstruck when trying to understand the praise this movie has received this year as well. Awful hollywood B movie plot and acting wrapped around some neat martial arts fight scenes that held my attention for all of 10 minutes before it became tiresome.

The majority of the movies I've watched this year have been underwhelming, but the worst of them has to be these two steaming piles of ****,

Resident Evil: Retribution
Snow White and the Huntsman

Honorable mentions:

battleship
act of valor
abraham lincoln: vapire hunter
the grey
underworld: awakening

Biggest disappointment:

Prometheus

I was just subjected to the movie "Alex Cross". That wins for me. Even after "turning my brain off" it was still awful.
