I'm going to assume the lack of Magic Mike in here is due to the site being mostly male and having no interest whatsoever in that kind of movie but seriously... Magic Mike was ****ing horrible.
At least Ted was bearable, I couldn't even sit through The Campaign. Also Battlefield Earth was amazing, anything with Forest Whitaker is a great movie..I mean haven't you seen Ghost Dog.
I think the question that needs to be asked here is why would anyone go see "Ghost Dog"?
Let alone complaining that it was a poor movie after seeing it.
woah, watch out there dude, your racial undertones are almost too subtle
How, exactly? By pointing out that Nick Fury was black in Ultimate universe, and saying that the movie follows the non-Universe characters so it didn't make sense? If you found that racist, it's not me you should be worried about.
But I digress. I wanted to love this movie but I ended up hating it. So much non-sense and terribly portrayed. I loved Hawkeye too, so it was a damn shame to see him as a nothing character that was tossed to the side until the very end.

I think this is more like the Most Disappointing Movies of 2012 instead of Worst.
Lots of hyperbole and posturing in here.
Bingo.
Every time one of these "worst" lists come up, a bunch of wannabe HFBoards hipsters rush to list everything that was popular as the "WORST OF ALL TIME".
Dark Knight Rises, Avengers, Ted. Sorry, in no possible universe are any one of them the "worst movie of 2012". Not when there's gems like Playing For Keeps out there.

Oh give it up. These posts outnumber the worst movie of 2012 posts now. Of course people are going to use hyperbole, it's the internet. But no, everyone has to be a hipster because you can't come up with anything original to call them. I doubt everyone here watched every movie released this year, so settle down when somebody lists a movie you enjoyed, and instead list your own, or at least provide an opinion on why you disagree.

Apparently it was one of Matthew McConaughey's better acting performances.

"no interest whatsoever in that kind of movie"??? What kind of movie is that? Now, I've got to see the damn thing.

I saw it and it was a very strong performance by McConaughey. He was getting a lot of Golden Globe buzz for it and a lot of people feel he got snubbed in favor of Jack Black for supporting actor - I agree with them.
On the point of Magic Mike, it's not a movie about male strippers. On the surface it is obviously but it's a surprisingly dark movie.
Apparently it was one of Matthew McConaughey's better acting performances.
He was great in Magic Mike, Killer Joe, Bernie and I thought he was awesome in The Lincoln Lawyer but that was 2011. With The Paperboy, this was a busy year for him.

It's not even really hyperbole if you think about it. (and no I'm not calling these popular movies the worst movie in existence)
(not directed at you now)
Everyone should realise that no worst of list is ever going to be even remotely accurate or fully exhaustively considered because we do not go out of our way to seek awful movies from the bottom of the bargain-bins every year. Most people are only going to see around 5-20 movies a year, so unless you want a thread with ZERO replies, when you see worst movie of the year, it should only logically be implied that you replace that with "worst movie YOU saw this year". Anything else is completely unreasonable to expect.
Of the people who generally love popular movies like Iron-Man and TDKR, you're most likely going to personally find it ridiculous to consider those the worst movies, because since you have interest in the genre, you're likely to see inferior movies in the same category. But instead of making dismissive arguments about hipsters, consider the alternative:
People who generally DON'T get excited about movies like The Avengers or TDK will likely see them anyways, just because everyone else does, whether they get dragged along or do so out of curiosity-- but they aren't going to watch the same inferior versions of the same mold (If you hated Avengers, what are the chances that you're going to watch whatever the equivalent of Transformers 3 is this year?). Why would anyone torture themselves like that?-- it doesn't make any sense! They're going to see other things that interest them that they have a lower chance of disliking. So of the 20 or so movies they watch, what is so dishonest or outrageous about putting TDKR or Avengers at the bottom of that list-- movies that they weren't too interested in but whose audience was loud enough that they gave it a shot vs. movies that aren't as popular that they saw out of their own interest?
It's completely rational that this would be the case for many people. On top of that, the fact that alot of people watch it means that not only are alot of people going to love it, but alot of people are going to hate it too-- it's not some cynical hipster trend-- it's simple math.
Getting upset about that is like yelling "Urrggh!! Why won't you watch more movies that you're even more likely to hate in order to gain some perspective for christs sakes!!". It's stupid. Leave it alone. Hipsters are not an epidemic like you think they are-- you're just too quick to use the label.
Generally speaking, nearly EVERYONE watches marketable popular movies, and obviously not everyone likes them. I do not believe that there's any more to this trend than that, personally, and it annoys the crap out of me that dishonest hipsterism is everyone's go-to argument.

I'm male and have zero problem with saying I thought Magic Mike was excellent. One of the year's best IMO.
As for worst, unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I just didn’t see as many movies this year as I usually do so I think I missed several things that would’ve really hit that worst category. And I didn’t encounter anything that I passionately disliked.
I can think of things like Promethus, which I could nit-pick to death but I still generally liked maybe even against my better judgement. Or something like Friends with Kids, which I was really digging until its bad, undermining ending. Or Hunger Games, which I thought was lifeless and dull for the first hour or so. But to label any of those “worst” seems too harsh to me.
Part of my brain is telling me that The Paperboy is definitely the worst thing I saw this year, yet the other part can’t deny what an entertaining, overwrought trainwreck it is. And I’m probably likely to watch it again to enjoy that hot buttered mess.
So, I’m going to do a bit of cop-out move and go with this -- 1/6th of Cloud Atlas. I won’t condemn the entirety of Cloud Atlas which had some parts that I really enjoyed. But, of the new releases in 2012, nothing horrified me as much as the furthest futuristic segment of this movie and the pidgin-English speaking of Tom Hanks and Hallie Berry. Just awful. Didn’t work for a single second. Angered me every time the story shifted back to this one.

How many people in here saw Playing for Keeps? I'm going to estimate close to zero.
How many people in here saw The Avengers? I'm going to estimate close to 90%.
It's not "what do you think was probably the worst movie you saw in 2012 but which looked so bad you didn't even go see it"...it's what was the worst movie you saw in 2012. I ask again - is it really so unfathomable that The Avengers was the worst movie someone saw this year?
Although maybe you could give us your review of Playing for Keeps, for contrast...
