Jake Gardiner + for the 1st overall selection in 2013 Draft

Just a thought here but, we all know Burke likes to weave his magic on draft day. One of his best trades happened on draft day, of course I'm reffering to how he was able to nab both of the Sedins. So, my though process is this...maybe Burke will want to nab the Mooseheads linemates this year?

Here goes...

To 1st overall team (?):
Joe Colborne
Tyler Biggs
Jake Gardiner
Korbinain Holzer
2nd in 2013

To Toronto:
1st overall selection (Nathan MacKinnon)

Than Toronto, with their own selection, odds are it will be around 4th, would select Jonathan Drouin.

Thoughts?

(My understanding is that the NHL would complie a list of the NHL's worst teams based on the last three seasons, and give them draft balls accordingly, of course I could be wrong)

Huge return, I'll take it if I'm Edmonton Or any team, if I hold 1st overall, I definetly want to trade for that return!

Seriously:
if Toronto had 1st overall, would they trade for that package (similar players/prospects), then you get your answer.

I would do it, it'll suck to lose Gardiner but we have Rielly coming up with the rest of the dmen.

So Edmonton, would you accept?

Here goes... (if the year gets wiped out due to the lockout, the odds are that Edmonton will yet again land the 1st overall selection)

To 1st overall team (Edm?):
Joe Colborne
Tyler Biggs
Jake Gardiner
Korbinain Holzer
2nd in 2013

To Toronto:
1st overall selection (Nathan MacKinnon)

you are wrong...and Edmonton would jump on that offer as their pick would not be Nate Mackinnon, probably no where cnear top 10.

If the Sens had the #1 I'd laugh at that offer.

1st, odds arent edmonton gets it, they are likely not to get it, Toronto would have a better chance.

2nd, no. Major pass from Toronto. Draft is too deep to make this trade.

I was under the impression, that the worst 5 teams of the past three years would be averaged out, and than they would have the most draft balls to move up in the draft. Similar to what they do every year.

I believe if you average out Toronto's last 3 seasons they would fall at the #4 position. And of course since Edmonton has drafted in the 1st spot the last 3 years in a row, they would sit at #1 unless they were displaced by a team that won the draft by moving up.

I'd definitely put huge consideration into this from Edm perspective. Only thing is I'd assume Montreal would be picking around 3-5 too, so I'd try really really hard to move the pick for Galchenyuk. If they were not willing to do that, I'm sure a deal similar to this could happen.

My initial concern was that Montreal would want to draft Drouin, but than I did a little research.

Montral wouldn't be in the top 10.

They drafted 3rd overall in 2012.
They drafted 17th overall in 2011
They drafted 22nd overall in 2010

That would average out to...14th overall

My idea was based on Toronto drafting both MacKinnon and Drouin. So we'd want to hold onto our 1st round pick as well.

I don't exactly know what edmontons needs are, but I believe that a second line centre is one of those needs. I know that their defense is not the best, but it's quite underrated and has quite a bit of promise with Schultz and Klefbom coming up. From a value standpoint I don't know really how to access it, because of how many pieces are involved. Colborne is nice, and could bring size to a top6 that IMO needs it, but is far from a sure thing. At first glance I'm like "classic quantity for quality" but Gardiner (depending on how well he meshes with their d core) could be valued very highly forthe oilers. I can't speak for the oilers obviously, but I think that it is a polite no thanks, but it is Burke so you never know.

The pieces go

Mackinnon

Gardiner

Rest

I just can't decide if the rest makes up for the difference between Gardiner and mackinnon, but I am a firm believer of whoever gets the most valuable piece will win the trade. If Burke can grab mackinnon and Drouin....

If the Canucks got the first overall I wouldnt do this, but Edmonton might have another opinion

To be honest, I'd rather get the 2014 1st overall pick to draft Connor McDavid.

As an Oilers fan, this is an easy no!

Unless you are talking about Kessel, Gardiner and Rielly.

Assuming no season the Oilers would be tied for the the worst chance at the 1st overall along with the teams that made the playoffs 2+ times in the last 3 years. This is assuming they do it like the Crosby draft. For that draft each team started with 3 balls and 1 was removed for each time they made the playoffs or drafted 1st overall in the previous 3 seasons, and all teams had to have at least one ball. With 3 1st overalls the Oilers would only have one ball in the lottery.

I think Montreal's original draft ranking in 2010 was 17th..they traded down. So it would work out to 12th or so..

Yeah that's not how the draft lottery will likely work.

If it was Edmonton with that pick there is no way that trade gets the deal done.

What I mean is I wouldn't trade all that away for a 2013 pick. I'd do that for the 2014 pick but not the 2013 pick.

Also, if anyone knows for sure, please correct me but I think I have a grasp of what the system would look like.

3 balls for teams with no playoff appearances in the last 3 years
2 balls for teams with one playoff appearance in the last3 years
1 ball for teams that have 2+ playoff appearances in the last 3 years or have picked 1st overall during that time (edmonton) or would they have two? Not sure
