Corey Perry.

Kessel is a great goal scorer, but so is Perry. And Perry doesn't just score goals, he hits, he fights and is a pest while being a great hockey player.

Kessel is my favorite player in the league, and I think it's close, but it's hard to go against a guy only 2 years removed from a Hart trophy.

Perry, for entirely different reasons than others... He's good defensively. Probably a little better offensively but on a very different level than Kessel in his own end and the neutral zone.

Perry, not close. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for the last two years.

Hard to go against a proven winner. Perry has won basically everything, even the mem cup. Also winning the mvp two years ago is a plus.

Easy there bud... Kessel scored 22 more points than Perry last season. I agree that Perry gets the benefit of the doubt given how it came a year after being the season MVP, but don't get too carried away.

Last year and right now, Kessel. Perry hasn't been great since his MVP.

I'd say Kessel's a bit better offensively. Hes an underrated playmaker. But the difference doesn't make up for the other things Perry does: hit, agitate, play tough minutes, pk, etc. Plus Perry's more proven in the playoffs and has shown he can take his game to another level in his MVP year. Kessel was better last year though and Perry isn't exactly lighting it up this year either. If it continues, it might be time to reevaluate

Give me Perry any day, and that's not a knock on Kessel.

kessel isnt the type of first line winger you win with. perry is. kessel might be better in a 2nd line winger spot on a contending team, but even then, when the going gets tough i wouldnt count on him.

If Phil Kessel is your 3rd best winger you are probably well on your way to a dynasty.

Oh okay, you're a homer, my bad. I was hoping for rational hockey discussion.

Can you tell me why Kessel isn't a "winger you win with"? Is it because he isn't physical?

If so Patty Kane says hi.

Dumbest thing I've read all day on these forums and that's saying quite a bit. Just because the leafs have sucked doesn't mean Kessel is a "winger you don't win with".

Kessel is one of the most dangerous offensive threats in the NHL. Any team looking for the cup would love to have him on their 1st line.

i guess theres nothing to say until kessel plays in the playoffs but until then you cant argue what i said. regular season theyre pretty even with perry having the slight edge after his mvp season but in the playoffs hes just the type of player you win with. i dont see kessel as that type of player. my opinion

i've seen quite a bit of both this season, and I can honestly say I'd rather Kessel. The guy is a better playmaker then people give him credit for.

I know people say that he's a floater and his defensive game is weak, but Perry's is absolutely worse. He's not the same player who won the MVP.

I agree with Perry being a better player than Kessel, but with the offense Kessel can create, he is a first liner on any NHL team and anyone who disagrees with this is just looking to cause a reaction.

Kessel is a point per game player in the playoffs.

Kane has never finished as high in scoring as Kessel did last year.
