Andy Reid hired by the Chiefs to be their new HC

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora
deal between Chiefs and Andy Reid is NOW imminent. As in will be finalized likely by end of day

Figured this was basically confirmed.

Reports are Reid is bringing ex-Browns GM/former Eagles FO man Tom Heckert with him.

From at least what I've heard reported, the Chiefs were willing to give him effective carte blanche overall all personnel decisions while the Cardinals weren't, so that probably weighed heavily on his decision.

Have the #1 overall pick in the draft certainly doesn't hurt either, even without an obvious #1 QB to draw from.

My prediction

Vick follows Reid to KC and they pass up QB with #1

Reid will pick a QB later in draft to develop (Ala Kolb/Foles)

I think you're right there.

I'm betting it'll be Bray.

That makes lots of sense. Where the Chiefs are drafting you don't want a QB in this draft anyway.

I sure hope they don't pick a QB with the #1 pick. Who would they choose? Barkley?

I would be more worried about Ponda Baba in the AFC West if the Quarterback situation weren't a trainwreck in KC and unlikely to get much better with Vick.

It wasn't that long ago the Broncos were in Chiefs spot with trainwreck at QB (Orton/Quinn/Tebow) , Coach (Mcd) , etc

NFL changes come fast ,, Reid is first positive step for Cheifs in a while

I'm stoked for this hiring. Reid brings a long history of success with him, and was one of my top picks for the job. Hopefully the Chiefs trade for Alex Smith and use the first overall pick for something more useful.

I would even argue the Chiefs have more talent now than the Broncos did after their trainwreck 2010 season.

Getting Fox as HC, drafting Von Miller and adding the Sheriff was basically Elway's recipe to become a contender.

One other acquisition springs to mind.

Ah.

Anyway it's foolish to expect that kind of bonanza to turn around the team.

Maybe Alex Smith turns IMO the next Drew Brees, but even then Reid could be leaning towards Vick.

Vick is a turnover machine. Not to mention made of glass.

I guess there aren't any better options.

I'd be shocked if Andy Reid and Vick reunite.

Arizona is a better situation but perhaps they felt their defensive coordinator would bolt elsewhere or they've seen enough of Kolb.

Not shocked that Reid is taking a job this quickly though. There are a ton of openings and he is easily the best of the bunch.

I'm surprised by this. I didn't expect him to not interview with other teams and make a quick decision to coach the worst team in the league.

Now all the Chiefs need is for Brady or Brees to get released and they're good to go.

Vick won't follow Reid to KC, because it's not the type of situation Vick wants. He still wants to be THE guy (separate debate), not the placeholder for the heir apparent.

Good match. Hopefully he can develop a QB for them.

Maybe someone more familiar with the NFC/Eagles can help me out on this. Hasn't Andy Reid consistently done worse and worse since being given more control in Philly?

he was given full control in 2002 I believe. Since then while they did go to Super Bowl and win playoff games, the talent got worse and worse. He is terrible when drafting defensive players.

The good thing is that KC has talent on D. I think whoever the QB they bring in via draft/free agency/trade he will help.

Hmm, it may be a case of positive early returns then. Followed by regression closer to the mean if he controls drafting.

Did they have a Rooney Rule interview, or does Crennel's exit interview count?

They interviewed the Falcons special teams coach who they probably had no intention of hiring.

The Rooney Rule is more racist than it is helpful.

"Hey Andy, we're gonna hire you but we have to find a minority to give a pity interview to first."

Back on topic. I think its hilarious/odd that Reid went from basically a done deal with Arizona on Tuesday to now never even have interviewed with them and is all but a done deal to KC.

I also found this hysterical:
