Apparently Western conference players/teams get no recognition by the media since they only focus on Eastern teams/players.

Also it's also been suggested that Eastern Conference fans don't stay up late to gauge an opinion of players from Western Conference teams.

Thank God, yes!
I'm a hardcore fan but have no interest in watching KHL, Euro leagues, or Kings-Flames.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the majority of people saying no will be Eastern Conference fans.

Simple answer, yes.

Without question there is. What percent of Eastern Conference fans knew how elite Anze Kopitar was/is before the Kings cup run?

In the media, yes. But it's not nearly as bad as many people make it out to be.

If you guys want more recognition out west, start getting busy and make more babies with each other.

Its not our fault we have a huge population in Ontario that needs up to the minute information about the Leafs.

Everyone here knew Anze Kopitar. You're lying to yourself if you think otherwise.

Well, being that I like evidence instead of opinion, a starting point would be to say that award winners since 1990 have been distributed as follows:

AwardEastWest
Norris814
Hart139
Byng1012
Calder139
TOTAL4444

Probably a fair statement to say Eastern teams generally spent more money than Western teams too so we'd expect them to have more of the star players.

Obviously a very very basic look, but a starting point.

I'd say the East gets more media attention than the West, but that could also be because you've got Crosby, Malkin, Stamkos, Giroux, Ovechkin, Lundqvist, etc... all playing on East teams.

Your East/West is flawed, since there are a number of Western Conference teams that are practically East Coast teams.

My impression was that the OP was asking of Eastern Conference vs Western Conference, no?

What's he asking then?

Is there a West Cost Bias? Cause "defense" seems to be blown out of proportion there.

The question is East Coast bias, not Eastern Conference. The bias doesn't come from the Conference, but from the time difference.

The bias being talked about is in the media. It happens in all sports, but is more easily seen in the other major sports in the States because of ESPN and all their bull**** coverage.

Well in that case I disagree. Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary all get plenty of attention both media-wise and otherwise.

There's a small-market bias, but I think you'd be hardpressed to show a time-difference bias.
