You can be assured it will even out - or worse. The only consistency there is from the officiating is how terrible it can be at handing out majors.

I don't blame the Canadian kid for dropping at all, given he'd already been kicked in the face with a skate. I'd be a little groggy after getting drilled to the head for sure.

the issue is it being a 5 minute major, it should have been 2 and thats it

Yup, that's right. Wotherspoon sells the call so much he is willing to let Canada play down a defender for the rest of the period. You know exactly what you're talking about .

And you guys (maybe not you but plenty of Canadians would) would be arguing it didn't deserve the whole game... Just saying. Do you need to go back to some of the threads in games where your guys got tossed?

Tbh the only reason that Nichuskin hit was assessed 5 and a game was because Wotherspoon went down injured. Don't believe the hit will be given supplementary discipline as to me the intent was not predatory.

He might learn that self discipline and not handing advantages to the opposition for free is also a valuable trait.

I hope he apologizes to his team mates and Varnakov after the game for providing the Canadians with 2 goals.

Russia gets screwed by the American referee! The call on Nichushkin really f**ks Russia in two ways - it cost the Russians two goals, and at the same time, it takes Nichushkin out of the game, when we were already missing Sigarev. The announcers were probably right in saying that the American ref thought Wutherspoon got cut by the hit, and not by a skate five minutes earlier. The call will enhance his credentials to maybe get a higher level minor league reffing job, if there is enough gratitude for the contribution his call made. The Canadians will make the same hit 11 times in this game, but won't even get a minor for it.

Regardless of the outcome of this game, Russia will finish well-positioned to make a run in the Medal Round. That's all that counts.

A proper pass avoids that situation completely: He was left with no other options.

Reminds me of the people saying Alfredsson dove when he was elbowed in the head by Hagelin in the playoffs. He then proceeded to miss the next 3 games...
