No one has started a thread on Dan Marino's recent revelation?

I was surprised one wasn't stickied or something. Pretty big considering Marino wasn't exactly the type of guy you would associate with getting a love child right off the bat. He had 6 kids and the one thing I am wondering is why in the world he never had a vasectomy if he is going to be stepping out on his wife like that. Anyway, it doesn't take away what a great ball player he was of course but it has got to be as awkward as sin doing the Super Bowl for him this weekend. Thoughts?

I made an off-hand comment about it in the offseason thread

It got a guffaw out of me, but it didn't really seem thread worthy.

The worst part has to be how humiliated the wife must feel. It's one thing for your spouse to cheat when you are just an average citizen. But for EVERYONE to know your spouse stepped out on you and had a child with someone else?

Yeah, my gut feeling is that tommorrow will be the last time we see him on the NFL Today. In fact, I wonder if it was someone from CBS who leaked the whole thing in order for them to have an excuse to dump him without getting an overload of backlash? He's been very mistake prone this season & they might be looking to replace him & now they have thier way out.

I don't know. It is still Dan Marino, you know? Sometimes these guys sign a morals clause in their contract and such so they may very well be within their rights. Kind of the same reason Kobe and Tiger got dumped by a lot of their sponsors. If you screw up publicly that badly it can look bad on a sponsor.

That being said all of the guys on either panel (pick one) you'd have to wonder just how many children Deion Sanders or Michael Strahan may have. Not to mention someone is going to probably pick up Ray Lewis by next year. I love Lewis, but if we are going to judge some off field accusations (even just the suggestion of his past) isn't that worse than Marino? I don't think all analysts can be squeaky clean like Kurt Warner and Tony Dungy. But we'll see what CBS does with Marino.

Pretty sure CBS is not gonna be happy that he had relationship with CBS production assistant and the reports of hush money payments and him having her move to Texas

That right there is enough grounds to fire him

Yeah, the love child is one thing; it wasn't really a secret that Dan Marino isn't the greatest guy in the world. The problem is the hush money and the measures he took to cover it up.

Wouldn't surprise me to see him apologize and announce that it is his final appearance on CBS tommorrow

Provides him easy out and CBS easy out instead of CBS having to fire him and story getting bigger

Seriously? Why? Comments like this truly make me sick.

Why does the public care so much about what someone does in his private life?

I don't give a flying **** that he cheated on his wife, and he doesn't deserve to lose his job over it.

We went through the same ******** with Tiger Woods.

Its none of our business if hes loyal to his wife or not, and it really doesn't matter.

To be honest, I hadn't heard a lot of bad things about Marino as a person prior to this. Maybe it's because it has been so long since he played and he's not in the spotlight the way he used to be. Elaborate a bit.

Are you talking about legendary Miami Herald columnist Edwin Pope? If so,I have not seen his thoughts yet, but columnist Greg Cote staunchly defended him.

And to answer Big Phil above, I heard stories years ago about him not being the best of teammates.......think Jay Cutler as far as how he was to them on the field.

CBS has to fire him not because of his infidelity but because it happened with another employee and the hush money and everything. It's not about morals, it's about the workplace environment.

He stole it from that tweet.

I refuse to believe a pro athlete had a child with a mistress. This is unheard of, except it's happened a thousand times before.

Well we all know Cutler's reputation for sure. To be honest I just don't remember a lot of that about Marino for some reason. I always saw him more like a Peyton Manning type on the field (eg. very passionate and would react to a dropped pass). But I guess that can be interpreted as a jerk as well.
