Gaunce vs. Jenner

Im just curious why Jenner was chosen over Gaunce? Gaunce is playing first line PP and PK and is a top faceoffman for the Bulls.

Jenner might bring more of the "grit" but Im not sure what else he does better than Gaunce.

If someone could compare/contrast and maybe give me insight into HCs decision, it would be most welcome.

I find Jenner does basically everything just a bit better than Gaunce. He plays harder, hits more enthusiastically, but I find he's also a bit smarter, has better vision, whether employed on offense or defense. Based on their OHL play... but Jenner has some higher level guys around him too. Some similarities, but I don't see any debate about HC's decision on these players. Jenner is better.

Gaunce was injured at the time and is also a center of which Canada has too many

Jenner is also a year older and a returning player from last year. That made him pretty much an automatic.

I expect Gaunce will be in the mix to make Team Canada next year though.

Jenner has four more goals than Gaunce has points this year. I like Gaunce but he's basically a poor man's Jenner at this point.

Jenner is a perfect example of someone who was built to play the pro game. He is too hard for this tournament, in my opinion, but in the NHL he will be dynamite. Maybe he should not have been chosen for this tourney, but I guess the thinking is that you need a guy like that to intimidate the opposition.

A bit disingenuous with Gaunce missing a few weeks and the talent disparity between their respective teams, isn't it?

I don't disagree with HC's decision, but I don't see how you can use a stat like that to make a point more valid.
