The selection of Reed in the 3rd made it clear the odds of Cooley coming back slim, but below makes it official:

Quote:
Running back Chris Thompson will wear No. 35, linebacker Brandon Jenkins will wear No. 57, safety Bacarri Rambo will wear No. 29 and running back Jawan Jamison will wear No. 47.

A defiant Snyder....I love it.

"We'll never change the name," Snyder told USA Today. "It's that simple. NEVER -- you can use caps."

Caps? Its a sign.

Joking aside, I like that he is being stubborn about it. Continually banging the drums to change the name at this point, actually opens the wounds of atrocities past, does it not?

It's not politically correct to say Redskins!!1! Whoops. Salting.

People seem to have become excessively hyper sensitive to things that they were... told to be sensitive about. You eventually join the cause because it's all you hear; the drums of war slowly brainwash us.

Political loud mouths have long been using that to spread their lies as truth. You go your whole life thinking the Redskins are a football team. Someone keeps telling you otherwise everyday at age 40. You unknowingly buy in to get them to shut the **** up.

Oh I'm sure it's quite the opposite. As long as the name is what it is there's an easy story for pretty much anyone to continually come back to.

A lot of the sportswriters are adamant the name be changed, Kornheiser and Wise amongst them.

Name is fine as is

The local media is afraid that by not supporting a name change, that they will be labeled as bad as the team themselves. Plus as has been mentioned, they have endless free stories that they can recycle. They don't have to waste any time writing a new version. They change the date, add the latest non native american indians name to make a stink, and run with it.

Think about how many fans get unknowingly brainwashed into supporting a name change, from reading the same story, over and over. If the images of war were on the local news on a regular basis like the name change story, you would rethink your stance, too.

I don't get the name debate. Its not as if the Redskins are attempting to bring "dishonor" to the name and there is no malice behind it. The name is held with the utmost respect from its fans and its beloved.

I feel like, if anything, it should be embraced as a means to retake the word back form its negative origins and reforge it into something positive (or at the very least remove the negative connotation from it).

LOL

I have been saying all along, the face behind this movement is not _ _ _

But maybe it will be if it keeps coming out that the Chiefs don't give a rats ass about the teams name. I hope he gets exposed as an entrepreneur first and foremost. And in the end, exposed for actually using those he alleges as horrified by the name, for personal benefit.

Playing on the human over emotions taking donations, and pocketing most of the money. Having a token court filing. And do it every single year.

I don't think the name will be changed, but it really should. I mean, it's equivalent to having a team named the Washington N-word. They are both equally offensive.

I realize the intention behind the name is not malicious or hateful, but it's just ignorant and tasteless.

Its not though. They are not the same.

Not even close.

Honestly, if Indians everywhere wanted it changed, and petitioned as such, I'd feel differently. But its not about them, for the most part. Its about people that have nothing better to do than fight the system in some manner...fight the power.

I have some Indian blood in me (not a lot, but its there), and I dont care. As many have pointed out, I think the Redskins are symbolic of the bravery and traditions of Indians.

But that's just me

Hate to bring politics into this discussion, but the name change thing is being driven by left field loons. And if left field loons can force politicians to refer to a Christmas tree as a Holiday Tree anything is possible.

This is rich. The guy that did very little preparation wise in his 1 year in DC wants to give Griffin advice.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports...027_story.html

No thanks.

While I agree Griffin is spreading himself around a bit to much, and could use some guidance from a retired NFL QB that has been there and done that, I would rather see him seek out the advice of Steve Young over McNabb.

pman,

The exact opposite is true. The name "Redskins" was selected because of positive qualities that were associated with American Indians (courage, ferocity, determination, etc.).

I don't like the name but it certainly doesn't offend me—I am smart enough to not judge a man by his genetic code, i.e., to judge not by his skin color but by his choices as an individual man.

I do hate that our culture is so motivated by racial collectivism but it can't be outlawed. All a proper government can do is protect the individual rights of its citizens. All its citizens. If the government forces a Redskins name change then shouldn't we ban BET? And certainly the Fighting Irish has to go.

There is only one thing that can end racism: education. That is, the development of an individual, rational mind. Reading classical literature, mastering arithmetic, and learning to write effectively are the core of an education. Changing one slightly stupid team name out of thousands does nothing.

I was under the impression that the name was given by Natives to their fiercest warriors. Not given by whites to Natives. They painted their faces red before battle therefore were called Redskins.

If that's accurate the debate is over.

Marshall was a racist ***** but the amount of self-righteous indignation lately about this makes me want to vomit. A lot of morally superiors breathing fire and brimstone with little or no actual context of history.

Those spearheading the name change I content are not those offended by the name, because they are not Native Americans. They are feigning shock and horror because that is sadly what many overly hyper sensitive Americans do now.

If they think that this will somehow make up for all the atrocities committed to the Native Americans and change the on going current problems they face, they are simply fooling themselves.

They should instead focus on improving the reservations day to day life that sadly, lags far behind the standards of the rest of our country. They could donate funds for schools or hospital, provide jobs, get them electricity. I doubt they even watch NFL football. Maybe those that had a casino developed on their land get free electricity / cable.

Its very shallow to think that the name change is what we should do to help them.

Life on the reservation:
  • highest rate of school drop outs (about 54%),
  • highest rate of child mortality,
  • highest rate of suicide
  • highest rate of teenage suicide ( 18.5 per 100,000),
  • highest rate of teenage pregnancy,
  • lowest life expectancy ( 55 years)

There are much bigger fish in the frying pan and all know it, but much like to the slaughtering of their people, we simply continue to turn a blind eye.

Lets hope that Reed isn't a complete clone of Hernandez http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl...?sct=uk_t11_a1

Quote:
BOSTON -- New details surfaced late Wednesday night further tying Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez to the investigation of a homicide of a Boston man. Hernandez's involvement in the case is significant enough that a source with knowledge of the investigation said that Hernandez's arrest is likely. It is not yet known what he would be charged with.

On Thursday ABC News reported that a security system in Hernandez's home, which included video surveillance, was smashed intentionally and a cell phone was handed over to police "in pieces" by Hernandez's attorneys. A cleaning crew was seen leaving Hernandez's home on Monday before the police searched the residence.
