Burke would NEVER move that much for the 1st... that offer is a disaster.

They'd gun for Nate and Drouin IMO. But it's all a pipe dream.

Giving up way too much. Toronto should have a high enough pick for a quality player like Monahan.

Fact.

Tyler Biggs has NEVER impressed me, and this tournament just re-inforces my previous thoughts. He has almost no skill, we can all see it

To be honest... if Edmonton got the first overall pick again, this deal would such for them. Think about it...

#1: Remember the maximum contract limit.
#2: We have Schultz and Petry, so the arrival of Gardiner isn't exactly groundbreaking.
#3: If Edmonton drafted BPA they'd end up with a player ready to make a much bigger contribution than that whole package within 3 years.
#4: If Toronto's first overall pick was also in the package it probably wouldn't have won me over, but it would have gone a lot further than the contribution that 2nd rounder made.
#5: We Oil fans here on HFboards would feel very guilty for being responsible for pretty much emptying Toronto's prospect pool. Sure, you'd still have your 2013 first rounder, Kadri, and Riely... but still having next to potato skins past that would be pretty sad.
#6: If Edmonton drafts Nathan MacKinnon, how would you like Hemsky as a free consolation prize?

I have saw quite a bit of him this year and can say that he brings a lot more then skill. He has never been someone you would consider a showstopper; and if you were expecting that, you are looking for the wrong guy.

I don't like when people compare him to Lucic so fast, But take a look at his Jrs. stats. Just food for thought; similar body type player. I don't see him replicating in the NHL. But you can write a player off from this tournament

Here goes...

To 1st overall team (?):
Joe Colborne
Tyler Biggs
Jake Gardiner
Korbinain Holzer
2nd in 2013

To Toronto:
1st overall selection (Nathan MacKinnon)

Than Toronto, with their own selection, odds are it will be around 4th, would select Jonathan Drouin.

Thoughts?

(My understanding is that the NHL would complie a list of the NHL's worst teams based on the last three seasons, and give them draft balls accordingly, of course I could be wrong)
Absolutely not necessary.

When the season gets canceled the Leafs will get the 1st overall pick in the next lottery.

DONE.

You can pinpoint the leafs homers so easily these days, quite sad.

That package wouldn't get you close to the 1st overall. As others have said it would take Gardiner + Leafs 1st(Assuming its also not a Top 5 pick, but also no later then probably 20th) to get the 1st Overall.

I spend most of my time of the Wings board and I think we're a bunch of homers and dreamers with our prospects. THen I read posts from Leafs fans. Lets trade a bunch of under performing prospects and one over performing prospect and get a player many scouts call "generational". Not every GM is like those suckers in Calgary.

I'm not saying it is worth the 1st and i think most leaf fans are defending the fact that they don't want to move that much for the 1st and would rather keep our prospects. Which should be okay in our own right; we aren't overvaluing , we are over-appreciating what we have and look forward to seeing them grow with us.

P.s the only one under performing is Colborne.

Not to mention this 'generation talent' could very easily be a Steffan or Daigle. Not likely , but you should be able to acknowledge that we are okay with keeping players rather than a number.

The new GM wouldnt have the stones to pull off a deal like that in such a short time

I'd rather have 1st overall and the chance to draft a franchise player, then Gardiner+ 3-4 lesser prospects, one of whom has a questionable compete level (Colborne).

Quality vs. quantity. I'll take the quality.

If god forbid Edmonton got the first pick again. I suspect they simply draft Jones and run with it. I also do not see Burke trading Gardiner+ for first overall.

why would someone pick MacKinnon with Seth Jones on the table? If the flyers were looking to grab the 1st overall to draft Jones, i'd even offer something like Couturier, Gostisbehere and a 1st, and maybe more. I think Jones will be that good.

Aye, Jones looks incredibly promising. With Schultz already, Edmonton would be downright beastly icing that pairing alongside their big four. If Dubnyk can front the load or they address goaltending in the event he does not. We'd be in for stiff competition for the division.
