Steve Gleason

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/70...gehrig-disease

He made the most memorable play in Saints history(better than Porter interception).
Hopefully he can fight thru it.
Today it is 5 years from his blocked punt.

I don't think there is any fighting through it- and it's horrible.

I can't look at the pictures of him on the field yesterday without choking up. He is such a great person- and was a fan favorite while on the team, still is. Such a horrible disease.

And yes the blocked punt was the greatest play in Saints history, I'll never forget the feeling of being in the dome that night. Doesn't matter who we were playing that night we were going to win.

Curtis Deloach, not the fan favorite Gleason was but a name I'll never forget (he's the one who recovered it and scored the TD).

Steve is truly an amazing person. He was that before the ALS diagnosis and the disease has not changed his spirit and inner light. He is the kind of guy who changes people's lives for the better just for having known him.

It is tragic what has happened to him but I cannot imagine a better ambassador for the cause of curing ALS.

My mom and Steves dad work together and are really good friends, so I have heard just how fast this disease has progressed. My mom can never run out of good things to say about him. It is the thing you hear the most about when Steves talked about, hes just a great all around guy. Even with this disease he is about as upbeat as you can be.

Gleason is featured in Peter King's MMQB on CNNSI this morning.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nfl.../?sct=uk_wr_a1

" One of the first times I knew I loved Michel was in 2004. She would regularly come over to my uptown apartment, where Brendan and Kyle lived with me. Michel fell right in with us three, which was next to impossible because we had been so tight for so long. I did not have a TV, so we had a goofy routine of all sitting on my floor on the futon, and listening to music while some trippy screensaver bounced around my computer screen. After several times coming over, I made the mistake (I found out later) of telling her. "I love having you over, you are just like one of the guys."

Anyway, one night in particular, I remember us all lounging in the futon, watching screensaver trippiness. As the music played, I leaned my head over, and rested it on Michel's lap. It was not calculated, or forced, it was comfortable. I do remember thinking something out of the ordinary. When Michel left that night, I remember saying to Kyle and Brendan, "One of us better marry that girl, because she is awesome."

We just fit together so well. We have ever since.

I love you, Rivers. And I love your mama. From the Northwest, from the deep South, or from the stars. I love you both, forever."

I just heard the Steve Gleason clip. It's awful. And people in New Orleans (and elsewhere) are going to be furious.

Haven't heard the audio, but I've seen a transcript, and it is cringe-worthy. They were rightfully fired. Truly repulsive, with malicious intention. Steve Gleason has worked harder than anyone could have imagined to retain his dignity through all of this, and thus not be defined by it. Didn't need a couple of radio hacks looking to make a name for themselves to prey on it.
