Agreed. He was a good QB and if it wasn't for the knee injury, he could have had a long and pretty successful career. All I was saying was that Moss made him look like a great QB and IMO, he wasn't great. I probably exaggerated with the Stafford comment a bit (or more than a bit), he wouldn't look "really bad" without Johnson but I think he would be pretty average. Just like Culpepper would have been without Moss.

2nd best QB in Vikings history.

I miss 'Pep more and more each year, because in the 8 years since his departure (aside from Favre in '09) I've had to watch: Brad Johnson, Brooks Bollinger, Tarvaris Jackson, Kelly Holcomb, Gus Frerotte, Brett Favre(2010), a washed up Donovan McNabb, Joe Webb and Christian Ponder QB the team.

Just checked out the history of Vikings QB's, man did they have a lot of QB's that are better known for being on other teams:

Favre
Gannon
Brad Johnson
McNabb
Moon
Jeff George
Gus Frerotte
Jim McMahon

They love retreads and stop gaps. They only used a 1st round pick on a QB Three times in franchise history: Tommy Kramer in 1977 (27th overall), Culpepper in 1999 (11th) and Ponder in 2011 (12th).

Bears cut 2011 4th round pick Evan Rodriguez and signed Devin Aromashodu for another tour of duty.

They also signed FB Tony Fiammetta to replace Rodriguez.

Vonta Leach getting the Boldin treatment in the next few days. Sucks because I really liked him. I guess Caldwell isn't going to run much of a power running game. They drafted Kyle Juszczyk this year who is a lot cheaper and more of a catching FB. Too bad, I was looking forward to seeing what Leach, Rice and Pierce could do this year.

Gonna miss Leach, but will cheer for him wherever he goes... that guy is old school. Not shocked. Hopefully frees up enough cap to bring in a WR.

Moss was one of the best to ever play. He helped quite a few qb's look good.

In his prime, Culpepper was anywhere between 3-6 in terms of top-qb in the league.

Former Bills QB Tarvaris Jackson expected to sign a one-year deal with Seattle, where he once was Seahawks' captain.

^ Makes sense. He goes back to Bevell and his only competition for backup is Brady Quinn.

Saints linebacker Victor Butler tore his ACL. Out for the season.

Totally fine with Tarvaris as a backup. Right where he should be.

He's perfectly like fine as a backup. You could certainly do worse. Most Vikings fans will tell he shouldn't even be QBing parking lot pickup games and put him on Spergon Wynn levels, but he's not that bad. It's not his fault ol' Baldylocks reached for him and thought he could make him something he was never gonna be.

With all that being said I'd still want him nowhere near starting. (other than a 1 or 2 game fill in.)

I actually kinda felt bad for him at times with the Vikings (aside from when I was cursing him during games ). He was forced into starting too early and then got jerked around by the same moron who reached for him to be his pet project. And all the while he never complained and went about his business.

By all accounts he's a good guy and great in the locker room too. Current Vikings who were teammates with him still love the guy and Sidney Rice is like his BFF. That stuff is probably one of the main reason he keeps finding work.

Leach will visit/visited Miami today. Sherman use to coach him, and has always loved him, and he would be a great lead blocker for Miller. I like Lane at FB for the Fins, but Leach would be a huge upgrade for the Fins.

Boldin and Leach are both really good players but they're two of the most overpaid players in the league. Can't believe any team took that deal from them. 3 million for a fullback and 7 million for pretty much a slot receiver?

Packers finally release Desmond Bishop. He visits the Vikings tomorrow.

Quote:
Adam Caplan @caplannfl
Bishop is free to sign since he's a vested veteran. By far the best ILB available. Expect a decent amount of interest in him.

Teams with the biggest need for a starting or depth at ILB/MLB: Vikings, Chiefs, Colts, Browns, Texans, Bills. 4-5 others may wait til camp.

That's a huge loss for them. I dont see the Saints defense being a whole lot better than last season.

Also Randall Cunningham, though he did have his best year as a Viking with a pretty great supporting cast. That Viking team was ridiculous.

Vikings haven't had a steady franchise quarterback since Fran Tarkenton.

Come to think of it, the Kansas City Chiefs haven't had a franchise QB since Len Dawson..

Desmond Bishop isn't exactly a world beater but he's solid and instantly upgrades the Vikes LB corps, if signed. Henderson can go back to the outside and they don't have to rely on 4th round rookie Gerald Hodges or journeyman career STer Marvin Mitchell starting.

Whoa, that's where Marvin Mitchell ended up? And might be starting?

Hopefully he doesn't leave without a contract. Bishop doesn't need to be an All-Pro, he just needs to be better than Marvin Mitchell... which shouldn't be a difficult task.

Another actual NFL linebacker addresses a huge hole in the Viking's roster and gives them a solid (albeit depth challenged past the D-line) defense.

Welcome to the Viking's situation at LB. The contingency plan to Mitchel or a 3rd day rookie start is to lay a tackling dummy on the ground and hope players trip over it.
