Thomas Vanek - One of the Most unappreciated stars in the league

Can somebody explain why Vanek is not mentioned more on HF boards as a top teir superstar in this league?.

The guy is sick, He can shoot, pass, tips better then anybody, Great offensive awareness, and is a complete stud in nearly every facet of the game.

This is one player that deserves to be talked a hell of a lot more then he is.

He's also physically strong and tougher than people give him credit for.

He's had like 4 threads dedicated to him already this season. I'd say he isn't unappreciated recently. However, he certainly has been in the past.

I completely agree. Reminds me of Heatley in his prime.

The guy has never even had a number one caliber center to work with either once Briere left. He is having one hell of a game my goodness! That deflection, that pass, and that one timer were absolutely incredible. He has a highlight reel youtube quality video night so far.

Hes a similar player to Gaborik. Invisible some games, but in other games can completely control the game.

He's a Bruins killer, and a top sniper in the game.

This is what Vanek could have been doing the past 5 years if he got more ice time. Vanek per minute is one of the most productive players in the league. This is the first time he has gotten more then ~17 minutes a game and look at how much he has dominated. He has scored a point in every game so far.

This thread pops up at the start of every year, Vanek is a pretty solid player.

If he had a pair of puck possession hounds like the Sedins and caught on with their wavelength, boy would that be fun to watch.

He just needs to stay healthy.

Vanek certainly isn't a top tier superstar, but he's doing great so far. As a sabres fan, I certainly hope this isn't his usual hot start, after which he disappears completely

Call it the Bobby Orr pass. Amazing passing play by the Sabres. You don't see 8 or 9 pass scoring plays, and NEVER one with a last pass that sweet.

Easily a play of the week.

I would love to see that! They would easily put up more points than any line the league. haha

He reminds me of Elias, even though they have completely different play styles. He's just a very unassuming player, very responsible in all facets of the game, does his job and doesn't really cause any problems.

Most knowledgeable fans recognize and appreciate how good he is, but it's more of a matter of him playing "as expected" and not really drawing hype/attention to himself. And unfortunately, sometimes fans of his team may take him for granted and forget how special of a player he is.

I'm sure he's who Vancouver was after when they ended up with Kassian. If Kevin Lowe did one thing right, it was identify the natural talent Vanek has.

Agreed. That was crazy. Thought of Orr's famous goal as well.

A Vanek highlight reel would be one of the best in the league, I'd argue. When he is "on", look out!
